I don’t claim that many things on this site will “blow ya mind” (except, hello, this Blow Ya Mind Cheddar Broccoli Chicken Pot Pie) but trust me when I say these cookies will do just that.
If you’ve made any of my cookie recipes you know that I take them very seriously. My famous brown butter chocolate chip cookies are still one of the most popular recipes on AK, so a couple of years back I set out to make the best vegan chocolate chip cookies that just so happens to be gluten-free, too!
These babies are perfectly sweet with golden exteriors and those chewy middles you crave. Bake a batch, share them with vegan & non-vegan friends, and get ready to blow their minds, too.

Everything you’ll need to make the best vegan chocolate chip cookies
This healthy vegan chocolate chip cookie recipe doesn’t use strange ingredients or add-ins — just a handful of pantry staples you likely have in your cupboards! Here’s what you need to make them:
- Brown sugar: I like to sweeten these cookies with brown sugar for that delicious, rich molasses flavor. You can actually make your own using this tutorial!
- Coconut oil: you’ll need some coconut oil to give the cookies the perfect amount of moisture.
- Flaxseed meal: we’re replacing the egg in this vegan cookie recipe by using flaxseed meal and a little bit of dairy free milk!
- Flours: we’re using a mix of almond flour and oat flour to keep these cookies gluten-free with the best texture.
- Baking staples: you’ll also need vanilla extract (learn how to make your own here!) baking soda & salt.
- Chocolate chips: puddles of melted chocolate in every bite? Yes, please. Use vegan chocolate chips or chocolate chunks (we love the brand, Enjoy Life) to keep these cookies vegan.
What keeps these cookies vegan?
These chocolate chip cookies are made vegan thanks to flaxseed meal! In the wet ingredients, you’ll add flaxseed meal and a little almond milk to essentially create a vegan flax egg right in the batter. Learn more about how to make a flax egg here.
Reminder: be sure to use dairy free chocolate chips as well to keep the cookies fully vegan.
Questions on substitutions
As always, I recommend following this gluten free and vegan chocolate chip cookie recipe exactly to ensure that you get the perfect taste and texture every time. If you’re out of a few ingredients, here’s what I do and do not recommend:
- Can I use a different flour? Unfortunately, no, I cannot recommend a sub for the almond flour and oat flour in this recipe. Check out my vegan and gluten free oatmeal chocolate chip cookies for a gluten free, nut free alternative.
- Can I replace the coconut oil? Yes! Feel free to use melted vegan butter in place of the coconut oil.
- What about a natural sweetener? You can also use coconut sugar in place of the brown sugar to naturally sweeten these cookies.
Make your own oat flour right at home
Did you know you can make your own oat flour to use in this recipe? Yes! You’ll just need one ingredient and a couple of minutes. Check out my full tutorial on how to make your own oat flour and get baking.
Magical vegan chocolate chip cookies (in one bowl!)
That’s right, this one bowl vegan chocolate chip cookie recipe couldn’t be easier to make and takes just under 30 minutes:
- Prep your pan. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper so that the cookies don’t stick.
- Mix the wet. Whisk together the brown sugar, vanilla, flaxseed meal and almond milk until smooth. Then whisk in the melted and cooled coconut oil.
- Add the dry. Stir in the almond & oat flour, baking soda and salt until well combined. Then fold in your chocolate chips.
- Scoop & bake. Use a medium cookie scoop or your hands to form cookies with about 2 tablespoons of dough. Place them on your baking tray and bake!
- Cool & enjoy. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for at least 10 minutes so that they don’t break apart. I like to sprinkle on a little flaky sea salt and then devour!
Can you eat the dough?
Because this vegan chocolate chip cookie recipe doesn’t have any raw eggs or raw, all purpose flour, you can actually eat the dough! Almond flour, oat flour and flaxseed meal are all safe to eat raw, unlike regular, all purpose flour (which can have bacteria).
Want even thicker cookies?
If you love thick cookies, simply refrigerate the cookie dough for about 10 minutes before baking them.
How to freeze vegan chocolate chip cookies
You can freeze both the cookie dough and the cookies themselves for months! It’s the perfect way to double batches and save some for later. Get my full tutorial on how to freeze cookies two different ways here.

125 Ridiculously Good For You, Sometimes Indulgent, and Absolutely Never Boring Recipes for Every Meal of the Day
Ingredients
- Wet ingredients:
- ¾ cup (160g) packed brown sugar (or sub coconut sugar)
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon flaxseed meal
- 3 tablespoons almond milk (or dairy free milk of choice)
- ⅓ cup (75g) melted and cooled coconut oil
- Dry ingredients:
- 1 cup (112g) packed fine blanched almond flour
- 1 cup (92g) gluten free oat flour*
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup (90g) chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, vanilla, flaxseed meal and almond milk until well combined and wet. Next, whisk in the melted and cooled coconut oil until completely smooth and creamy, about 1 minute.
- Add the dry ingredients to the bowl: almond flour, oat flour, baking soda and salt. Mix with a wooden spoon until well combined. Fold in chocolate chips.
- Use a medium cookie dough scoop to grab cookie dough, or use your hands to grab about 2 tablespoons of dough and roll into a ball. Place cookie dough 2 inches apart on the baking sheet to prevent cookies from baking into each other. Bake for 10-12 minutes. Allow cookies to sit on the baking sheet for at least 10 minutes before removing them from the pan. You should get approximately 15 cookies.

will be making this soon i love cookies soooooooooooooooooo much am vegan so this is perfect for me perfect for my office snacks will dm you if i make this and let you know how it goes Thanks Ramya
Hope you love them!
is it okay to use eggs if we don’t have flax meal on hand?
I haven’t tested it, but would be concerned with the cookies flattening out; you might need to chill the dough first — unsure! If you try these with an egg, you’ll need to leave out the almond milk as well.
Hi!! I love your stuff so much! The tahini brownies are my actual kryptonite and I just tried the lemon poppy loaf, too! I am allergic to almonds (I did pumpkin seed meal in the lemon loaf), do you think that could work here?
The taste might differ but I’ve seen some recipes where you can sub additional oat flour for almond flour. Haven’t tried it myself tho!
let us know if you give it a try! otherwise, you can try my healthy oatmeal chocolate chip cookie recipe here: https://www.ambitiouskitchen.com/healthy-oatmeal-chocolate-chip-cookies-vegan-gluten-free/
Very easy to make and truly delicious! Thanks Ambitious Kitchen!
Absolutely! So glad you liked them 🙂
Just made these and they came out so good! I used melted vegan butter because that’s what we had on hand. These are reminiscent of an oatmeal cookie and definitely live up to their name!
Love it! Glad you enjoyed!
These are hands down the BEST chocolate chip cookies! I was pleasantly surprised with how easy the recipe was. Thank you Monique! We have a new favorite cookie in our house.
I’m so glad! Such a great treat 🙂
Can I use a real egg instead of the flaxseed meal? Can’t wait to try!!
I haven’t tested that way so I’m not sure! Check out my other gluten free cookies here if you’re looking for a sub 🙂
Absolutely delicious! I used coconut sugar instead of brown sugar because it’s all I had, and they turned out great. Will definitely be making again and again.
Perfecct! Glad you loved them!
These are super yummy. I made them with my girls today. I creamed the coconut oil and sugar and added an egg instead of the flaxseed and almond milk. They are super chewy and delicious! Thanks for a great recipe! Oh and I also made the oat flour myself with gluten free oats in my food processor.
Perfect! Love that!
The name of these cookies is so fitting and well-deserved- they truly blew my mind! Delicious. Used coconut sugar instead of brown sugar and definitely will use that sub again. 100% my new go-to chocolate chip cookie recipe!
Amazing! So happy you loved them!
Kid tested…mom approved. Everyone loves them and I love how easy they were to make!
I’m so glad!
Simply AMAZING!!!!!!
Yay!! So happy you loved them!
THANK YOU for these cookies – I am so happy to find a vegan/gf recipe where the cookies do not spread out into pancake-like structures. These guys spread the right amount and smell amazing! Only modification I made was using dark brown sugar and dark chocolate chips. My homemade oat flour was not perfectly ground, but worked just fine!
I’m so glad you found these ones! Perfect vegan dessert 🙂
I was a bit wary of making these because I wasn’t sure if a vegan/gf cookie could deliver the true chocolate chip cookie experience but let me tell you IT DOES!! Sometimes with almond flour I think things are too chewy but these are perfect! I wouldn’t change anything about them, and they may become my new go to chocolate chip recipe! I made a couple of mine into ice cream sandwiches. Great recipe!!
Surprisingly good! Love the idea of ice cream sandwiches 🙂 YUM!
So delicious and so easy to make! One of my favorite vegan cookie recipes ♥️
I’m so glad!!
Another AK winner in my book!! I made these this morning (using whole milk because had it on hand, and with 10 min in the fridge as suggested) and I will definitely make them again! Delicious!! Thank you!
Perfect! So glad you enjoyed 🙂
These are amazing!! Easy to make and lovin that they are gf!! My kids love them. Will be making these my go to chocolate chip cookie recipe!
Question though. Do you think they would turn out the same with a little less sugar?
So glad they were a hit! I think you could do 2/3 cup brown sugar and get good results!
OMG the best Gluten Free cookie recipe ever! Sooo good! I tried one batch exactly as recipe stated and second using coconut sugar and vegan butter in place of coconut oil and brown sugar. The second batch using the vegan butter and coconut sugar I found the batter to be slightly more wet but I may not have cooled my butter long enough. The dough is also darker. Still tasted fabulous! And Bonus is the dough tastes so good even before baking. Highly recommend! Thanks!
The taste is all that matters! I’m glad those little swaps worked out well 🙂
I don’t have oat flour. Can you substitute with coconut flour or other?
Hi! I wouldn’t recommend swapping the flours in here. Feel free to try my paleo chocolate chunk cookies using almond and coconut flour! They should work with a flax egg.
These are good! They taste like an oatmeal cookie, I think next time I’ll try with raisins instead of chocolate chips and add a little cinnamon!
I accidentally overcooked mine and they became super crispy and crunchy. But on the second batch, I cooked them properly and loved the soft chewiness!
Raisins and cinnamon sound delicious! I’m glad the second batch turned out well, too 🙂
Delicious recipe! I did sub out the coconut oil for avocado oil because my kids are not a fan of coconut. We loved the cookies!
I’m glad that worked out well! Such a great treat 🙂
Thank you for commenting on using avocado oil. My husband is trying to clean up his diet due to bad genetics with heart disease and the more I research the more I have been finding that coconut oil is terrible for heart health. It is actually worse than butter and not the health food everyone thinks it is. It clogs your arteries! His doctors have advised him to stay away from coconut oil. I will defiantly give these a try with avocado oil.
These are amazing!! Easy to make and lovin that they are gf!! My kids love them. Will be making these my go to chocolate chip cookie recipe!
Do you think they would turn out the same with a little leas sugar?
SO good!! I was a little worried about the shape as they were still pretty round/not flat when I took them out of the oven, but they flattened out nicely when cooling! I think I’ll need to make a double batch next time 🙂
Perfect! The texture is magic in these 🙂 Glad you enjoyed!
By far THE best healthy chocolate chip cookies I’ve made yet! My kids also love them (and they haven’t loved many recipes I’ve tried)!! My daughter said “mom these are the best cookies ever!!!
Thank you!
So happy to hear that!! Perfect treat for the kiddos 🙂
these are so easy and yummy. I plan on making them again today. I used a cut up dark chocolate bar and extra sea salt on the top- I couldnt stop eating them!
Love that! Sounds amazing 🙂
I used cassava flour and almond only thing is I had to add a bit more milk because it was crumbly im not sure if that’s because I changed the flour or not. Nonetheless it was delicious!
The texture will be different when you change the flours but I’m glad they turned out well!
Flavor and consistency of these cookies were amazing! I did use “mini” chocolate chips but probably would have prefer larger chocolate chunks. Either way a repeat recipe!
Perfect! Glad you enjoyed!
These cookies are AMAZING. I added a little extra sea salt because i love that sweet and salty combo. These taste like decadent bakery style cookies!!! The only problem is that they are all going to be gone in this house by the morning 🙂
Love it! Glad you enjoyed 🙂
I love for recipes like these! Ambitious kitchen is always SO precise about details, which makes the recipes come out exactly as posted! I am plant based and gluten free and finding a recipe like this is my love language. THEY ARE AS GOOD AS IT SAYS THEY ARE!!!! 😍
Aboslutely! So glad you loved them!!
My whole family loooved these cookies! They only lasted 2 days in our house!
So glad they were a hit!
These were so good! My husband said they’re the best cookie he’s had. He’s told other people about them! Thank you for another great recipe.
Amazing! I’m so glad!
I made this with an egg instead of the flax egg and almond milk and it was AMAZING. So chewy and perfect texture. My new favourite cookie recipe from AK! Made 17 cookies with 10min cook time. Try it!
I’m glad that worked out well! Perfect treat 🙂
OMG- these were so so delicious. Me and my 2 little daughters gobbled them up. I had to bake mine for a few more minutes, but they were so easy and delicious. Love that it’s one bowl!
So happy to hear that! Perfect treat 🙂
Can I use oil instead of coconut oil or butter?
I wouldn’t recommend, sorry!
If you use coconut sugar, should you pack that, too?
No need to pack coconut sugar; it’s kinda impossible!
The best cookie recipe ever. So chewy and crispy at the same time! The first time I made them, I thing I added too much flour trying to pack too much the almond flour since they were not melting as they should and getting flat in the oven. But they were so good anyway. However, I made them once again and made sure to add only the correct amount of flour without packing it and they were perfect.
Perfect! So glad you enjoyed 🙂
SO GOOD! And easy! Yum, thanks Monique!
Glad you loved them!!
So I love all your recipes that I’ve tried, but this one inspired me to leave a comment because they are THAT good. I subbed the brown sugar for coconut sugar based on your notes and omg. I can’t believe how easy and delicious this recipe is. I’ve made so similar types in the past, but these are by far my favorite. I know they are the real deal when my husband wants more of the “healthy” desert!
Amazing! So happy you loved these ones and thanks for your comment 🙂
These are amazing! So easy and delicious. Highly recommend.
So glad you love them!
These are heaven!! Made exactly as written (with coconut sugar) and they came out perfect. A new household favorite!!
So happy to hear that!
These are amazing! My husband said one of the best cookies he has had. Vegan or not!
So happy to hear that!
I did not have flax seeds at home but I really needed to eat some healthy chocolate chip cookies😊 So I made these cookies with 1 egg instead of flax seeds and almond milk and added chocolate chunks. They did not spread like in the pictures, even though I did not refrigerate the dough. I really wanted them to spread but they taste amazing so I don’t mind a thicker cookie😊Thank you for this recipe. I tried a few more of your recipes and they all turned out really good.
The egg is likely what changed the texture here! Try pressing down on them before baking next time. Glad you enjoyed regardless 🙂
Oh my goodness these are really amazing! Soft and gooey and just so easy to make. I made my oat flour like Monique suggested (literally takes one minute just use your pantry rolled oats). Also… just saying that I’m not even vegan and they are soooo good, made them twice already this week! The second time I made them I did the suggestion to refrigerate before baking, game changer! Yum yum yum.
So glad you loved them! New fav for us, too 🙂
I don’t think I’ll be able to make another kind of cookie ever again! These are amazing! 🤯
So glad you love them!
These are literally the best chocolate chip cookies ever. I’ve made them 5 times in the last 2 weeks and between me, my husband and my 2 year old, they never last more than 24 hours. Amazing and so easy! Thanks for the recipe 🙂
So happy to hear that!
Hands down the best cookies!! My husband agreed that they were the best cookies I’ve ever made! Chewy inside but crisp outside. Will be making these often.
I’m so glad!!
These cookies turned out way too flat and sugary! Seems like an unnecessary amount of sugar to me. I would have to reduce the sugar next time for sure.
Sure, feel free to! I found they were perfect, but to each their own. Maybe 2/3 cup would be better for you?
These are AMAZING! My kids totally loved them, and I swapped the brown sugar for coconut sugar (because we only use coconut sugar, maple syrup, and honey in our house if we can help it). I thought your oatmeal vegan chocolate chip cookies were my favorite cookie ever BUT these live up to the “blow ya mind” name in every way!
So happy to hear that! Perfect treat 🙂
Hi! I’ve made many of your recipes through the years and have loved all of them, and these were no different!
I ran out of coconut oil and used extra virgin olive oil instead, they still came out delicious and really good in texture🥰 thanks for another great recipe🙏
I’m glad that worked out well! Such a great treat 🙂
I had to improvise on a few ingredients that I didn’t have in my pantry, but these turned out so good!! I didn’t have flax meal, so I skipped the almond milk and used one egg instead. I also subbed butter for the coconut oil, and made some homemade oat flour in my blender (which never gets quite as fine as store bought oat flour). I wasn’t sure how they would turn out, but they were perfect and so dang tasty!
I’m glad that worked out well! Perfect treat 🙂
These are super easy to make and really hit the spot! I decreased my chocolate chips to 1/3 cup and added a 1/3 cup of chopped pecans 🙂
Perfect! Glad you enjoyed!
These did in fact blow my mind. Delicious!
Glad you loved them!
These are in my top 5 Choc chip cookie recipes FOR SURE. have made for friends on multiple occasions always w rave reviews. PERFECT blend of crisp and chewy. Even if you’re not vegan/gf DEFINITELY make these!
So happy to hear that!! One of our new favs, too 🙂
Had Vegan relatives in town so made these. They were truly “blow ya mind!” 😉 my kids even said they like them better than my “regular” cookies! Thank you for another great recipe.
Amazing! So glad they were a hit 🙂
These cookies are so so so goooood!!! I have already made them three times! My husband who is not vegan also thinks these are some of the best chocolate chip cookies he’s ever had! I like them a touch underbaked and with about half the amount of chocolate chips.
So happy to hear that! Love a good slightly underbaked cookie 🙂
Wow!! Quick, easy, and ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!!!
The perfect treat!! Glad you love them!
Sooo good!! Made them tonight and my husband loved them too – I waited to hear his reaction before telling him they were GF and vegan- he was really surprised and thought they were delicious! Def will make again.
Love that! Such a great dessert 🙂
My husband can usually tell immediately when baked goods are gluten free as he’s not a fan of the texture. With these he had no idea and declared them as some of the best cookies he’s ever tried! Seriously so good and so easy to make!!
Amazing! Just as good as the regular version 🙂 Glad they’re a hit!
Seriously so good! I’m so impressed by these. These will definitely be my go-to choc chip cookies!
So happy to hear that!
Amazing!!!
Glad you loved them!!
Holy moly, these are AMAZING!! I used coconut sugar instead of brown sugar and the taste and consistency on these is just perfect. I love that the oat flour gives it a bit of oatmeal cookie taste too. 100% recommend and 100% will make again!!
Perfect! Glad you loved them!
Dang these are delicious and addicting – so sweet and chewy. I baked for 12-14 min and they were perfect, but check at 12 to see the progress! Letting them sit for 10 min after was key, like mentioned in the recipe.
So glad you loved them!!
These are GOOD!! Also so quick to mix up and bake! We love the subtle taste of coconut that comes through from the coconut oil – perfect combination of sweet and salty. I did use an egg instead of the flaxseed meal and almond milk because I did not have flaxseed on hand, but next time I will try with the flaxseed to make them truly vegan.
Definitely my new go- to chocolate chip cookie recipe!
Oh YAY I’m so happy that you loved them!! Can’t wait for you to try them again 🙂
This is my first recipe of yours to ever make and I am SO IMPRESSED. I followed the recipe exactly and the texture is phenomenal. They did not crumble or fall apart at all. I love the subtle oat flavor from the oat flour. I’m not vegan or gluten free but will definitely make these again. 10/10. (I also found every ingredient at my local Kroger)
Oh I’m SO happy to hear that, Caroline!! Can’t wait for you to try them again (and some other recipes) soon 🙂
Excellent cookies! My go-to chocolate chip cookie recipe for year has been the vegan version of the chocolate chip cookies on the Bakerita blog (which are very similar but use all almond flour and creamed room temp coconut oil) so I knew these would be good. They turned out perfectly chewy & doughy inside but crisp on the outside. The outcome is versatile too; if you like flat crispy cookies, you can make them with warmer melted coconut oil to help them spread and bake them longer but if you want them to be thicker, you can chill the dough for a bit.
Hi, Molly. I’m so happy to hear that you loved them! Great tips for the coconut oil, too 🙂
Any chance this recipe can just use all purpose flour instead of almond and oat?? 🙂
To be honest I haven’t tried it, so I don’t know! Let me know if you try it. Also, not sure if you eat butter, but these cookies use AP flour and are AMAZING!
Excellent, delicious cookies! A close friend is having a cookie bar at her wedding, and once she tasted these, she requested that I make them! Very easy to make. I used 1/2 cup of sugar in one batch and 1/3 a cup in another batch…no one could tell the difference! Make sure to roll the dough into balls before baking as recipe directs. Even using a cookie scoop makes the cookies look a bit lumpy and uneven (still tastes great!). I added cranberries and pecans along with vegan chocolate chips.
OMG that is so amazing! I’m honored! So glad to hear you guys are loving these 🙂
I’ve made these a few times. The first two times they were great. The last two times they came out like dry balls. I didn’t change anything that I’m aware of. any clue as to what I did wrong?
Hi, Cecilia! Sorry that they haven’t turned out well the last couple times. No idea what could be going on here! Did you try different brands of the ingredients the second two times?
Good but I have had too many CCC in the past and I can’t say honestly that I was blown away by these. It worked well with chia seeds egg. Thank you for the recipe, AK!
Haha there are so many great recipes out there! Glad that you enjoyed these 🙂
Holy smokes delicious. Dangerous I found this recipe..can’t stop eating.
That’s what I like to hear!! 😊 So happy you’re loving them!
Perfection! Crispy on the edges, soft in the middle. Dough is so good Ive got to hold myself back from eating it while I roll the cookies into balls.
Yay, so happy you’re loving them! And I KNOW haha I can’t resist cookie dough either!
O. M. G. Used a sugar free substitute for brown sugar and sugar free chocolate chips; otherwise followed recipe to a T. Phenomenal cookies. Better than Nestle Toll House!!!! Outstandingly easy to follow and super soft.
OMG amazing!! So glad those worked out and that you loved them, Alicia!
My new go-to! Love this recipe so much
Oh yay!! So happy you’re loving them, Alisha!
Probably the best cookies i’ve ever had…. i’m obsessed!!
OMG no way!! I’m so happy to hear that! ☺️
Made these for a dinner party and they were a hit- the dough was a little runny at first but I put them in the fridge and they turned out great!
Glad to hear that they firmed up and that you loved them, Brenna! 🙂
Okay listen, I have my family go-to classic chocolate chip cookies, but I mean, I CRAVE THESE. I keep telling myself to make the classic, but then I remember how good these come out EACH TIME and I make these instead lol. Plus, for all your friends who have to have dietary restrictions it’s a win for everyone! MAKE THESE. I promise you will not regret it.
Easy to make and absolutely delicious ❤️ I love your recipes and it‘s great that a lot of them go GF/Paleo, too.
The site won’t let me pick 5 stars!
Sorry, that’s an issue we’ve been having! Do you mind sharing what internet browser you’re using (i.e., Google Chrome, Safari)?
I’m so happy you loved these cookies, though!
delicious batter, but they did not come out anything like the photo. It because they did not spread at all, maybe there was a mistake in the flour amount?
That’s my guess! Sorry to hear that!
This cookie recipe is soooo good! It checks all the boxes: vegan, gluten-free, refined sugar free (we used coconut sugar) and they are delicious. Thank you Monique for creating such an amazing cookie. They are moist, chewy, and oh so good. We cooked them for 10 minutes and they came out perfectly.
🥳 Yaaaay I’m so glad you’re loving them!!
These cookies were AMAZING!!!! They were super easy to make and only took 10 mins to cook! my non-vegan boyfriend and parents also loved them!! The whole batch was almost gone by the end of the night!
Awesome!! So happy to hear you all loved them, thanks for the review!
Seriously, these really are blow ya mind good! I’ve made them 3x. I am not vegan but originally turned to this recipe when i was craving cookies and was out of eggs. Now, even with eggs in my house, I will still reach for this recipe! They are both chewy and crispy. Give it a try, the only thing you’ll regret is eating the entire batch in one day!
Amazing! I’m so happy you’re loving these so much, Kerith!
Can I use gluten free all purpose flour instead of almond? If not, what other substitute can I use? I have a nut allergy. Thanks!
Hi, Kerryn! Sorry about your allergy. I haven’t tried anything but almond flour in these cookies but I have tons of other chocolate chip cookie recipes here! These ones might be a good option for you 🙂
The best! Finally found a recipe that’s “healthier” (not a crazy amount of sugar, butter etc) and allergy friendly! I used Bob’s Red Mill all purpose baking flour and Anothy’s whole grain oat flour. My daughter is allergic to almond flour. Easy to make, too! Highly recommend
These are great!! I made them really big and used Hu chocolate gems.
Just saw your photo in the FB group! They look INCREDIBLE!
These are INSANE and absolutely did blow my mind. HOLY YUM – one of the best cookies I’ve ever made, so crackly on the outside but gooey on the inside. I recommend making a double batch and freezing some to have as a after dinner treat throughout the week.
Oh, amazing! I’m so happy you loved them as much as I do 🙂 And definitely to double batching!!
I personally prefer to eat the uncooked dough more than the baked cookie!!! It’s soooo good p
Omg RIGHT?! Glad you love it!!
I’m no cook by a long shot, but these were so easy to make. I messed up and used oats instead of oat flour, and they came out a delicious oatmeal chocolate chip cookie. I substituted earth balance vegan butter for the coconut oil. Really great, easy, tasty recipe.
Yay! So happy that worked well and that you loved these 🙂
These are AMAZING!!
I followed all the directions and my cookies filled the entire sheet. They are crunchy and not very cookie like. Refrigerating them didn’t work either. Will not make again.
That’s really strange, that’s never happened to me! Are you sure you measured properly? Also what brand of oat flour did you use (or did you make your own)?
These are a new go-to cookie! I love how easy and few ingredients they have and they are truly delicious.
Yay!! So glad to hear you love them, Kelley!
Blow your mind is right! These are so delicious! Love being able to keep in the fridge or freezer to make a few up at any time. No one I’ve shared this with has even been able to guess that they are GF and vegan.
Easy to make and yummy! I did sub avocado oil for coconut oil- consuming coconut oil has recently not agreed with me. I also cannot have oats/oat flour so I tried buckwheat flour- it adds an earthy, deepness to the taste. I figured I’d toss in chopped walnuts too. Overall, a yummy cookie for me!
Glad that all worked out, Gretchen! Happy you enjoyed them 🙂
I made these for my picky 5 year old niece, who is allergic to dairy, and she loved them. When she was leaving my house, she ran out the door with two large handfuls. It’s was the cutest thing. They were also super easy to make.
Omg that is hilarious and SO SWEET! Glad you guys loved them 🙂
Could I sub white chocolate chips and pistachio nuts? Looks so good!!
Oooooh yes that sounds incredible!
These are “ Blow Ya Mind”cookies—Very fitting name! Everyone that I’ve made them for, loves them and asks for the recipe!
Woohooo! I’m so glad to hear that, thanks for the review, Amanda!
These are really yummy! Quite sweet, even though I used 72% chocolate chopped up. Perhaps could use less sugar? (I used coconut- gives a great flavour). And Rice Bran Oil. I overestimated the size of my cookie scoop so ended up with eight huge cookies which I cooked for 15 minutes. They are quite soft – almost cake like. I wonder if they’d be more cookie-like if they were smaller. Will try that next time. I will put these ones in the freezer to bring out only occasionally.
Happy you enjoyed them! Not sure about reducing the sugar because it might affect the texture. And yes smaller cookies will definitely have a different texture 🙂
I’m sure I commented on this recipe before, these are the best chocolate chip cookies I’ve ever made!!! And vegan gets me points with my son!!:Thanks Monique.
I’m so glad you love them!! Thank you!
These are so good! I have not made baked goods without egg before and was surprisingly easy. I felt strange putting in rolled balls on the cookie sheet but once they baked they settled perfectly.
So glad they turned out amazing and that you loved them!
Even my husband loved these vegan cookies! I had so much fun making them with my toddler, who mostly ate the dough, but that was totally ok since there are no eggs. Mom hack with the vegan cookies? I think yes!
Oh YES perfect mom hack hahaha! Happy you guys loved them!
My cookies taste great, but look nothing like the pictures and didn’t spread. I think it has to do with the way the flours are measured. Metric quantities would be great to avoid issues like this!
Hi! I don’t weigh my ingredients, sorry to say, but we just published a post on how to measure flour accurately without a scale 🙂 Hope that’s helpful!
Absolutely delicious! Everyone I’ve given these to loved them. Just watch them extremely carefully because they burn super fast.
I’m so glad you love them!
Have not tried your recipe yet. I have a question, my granddaughter is allergic to almonds and eggs. Can I use just all oat flour instead of almond mixed with? Also your recipes that require eggs, can I use flax seed eggs instead? I’m having a hard time finding things in stores and recipes that I can make for her.
Hi, Janice! I wouldn’t recommend replacing the almond flour in here, sorry to say. But I have a vegan & gluten free chocolate chip cookie here that I think would work for her!
These cookies are phenomenal. My go to recipe from now on!!!
Yay!! I’m so glad you love them!
Hi! Would love to try this recipe, but would you happen to have the metric measurements? Especially for the flours?
Thanks!
Sorry, I don’t use metric measurements! I’d recommend googling an online conversion calculator 🙂
I’m allergic to tree nuts. Can I substitute coconut flour for the almond flour and how much?
Sorry to say coconut flour and almond flour aren’t interchangeable! I’d recommend checking out my nut free desserts category for other cookie ideas 🙂
Unreal. Obsessed with these. Thanks Monique!
Woohooo I’m so glad you love them!
I blended my oats super fine and they were the chewiest cookies ever so good!!!!!! My new go to healthy choc chip cookies aka my new choc chip cookie recipe
NICE, so happy you loved these, Claire!!
Brown sugar is not vegan
Some brands are!
My new favorite cookie!! I’ve been making once a week these and even keep some in the freezer at all times! They’re just as good as frozen dough balls as they are baked.
So great to keep them in the freezer for on-demand cookies!! Happy you love these 🙂
They are so delicious! We already made a second round today. The kids love them too!
Hi Monique, I’d like to try this but can I have the measurement in grams metric instead of cup metric? Thanks!
Sorry to say I don’t weigh my ingredients so I can’t provide accurate measurements. I’d recommend googling an online conversion calculator 🙂
I’m usually skeptical of any recipe that claims to be the best or the most amazing. However, this cookie is amazing. I’ve tried several gluten and dairy- free recipes and this one is exceptional. You don’t feel like it is free of anything. I added coarse sea salt to the cookies before baking and they were so good. Thanks for sharing an amazing recipe!
Aw thank you, glad it didn’t disappoint! Happy you loved them and thanks so much for the sweet review 🙂
Amazing!!!!!
I am highly allergic to almond and almond products what could I use to substitute?
Sorry to say I wouldn’t recommend replacing the almond flour in this recipe. I do have another cookie recipe here that’s nut-free that you might like!
These recipe doesn’t make sense. I came out with potion of white goo. That tasted at first like something and after that i started choking on my own feces
Hi, there. Uh oh, it sounds like something went wrong! Do you mean it was like goo before or after baking? Did you change anything about the recipe or ingredients?
I love these cookies so much. I do find that sometimes they work better then other times and haven’t been able to figure out what I do differently. Sometimes they are flat as a pancake and other times they’re ok! They taste amazing either way and are super fast to throw together!
Happy you love them! And that’s strange… Any chance you’re using slightly different amounts of flour each time?
the best chocolate chip cookies!! perfectly buttery, sweet, and that hint of salt 🙂
Hands down the BEST cookie I’ve ever made/had 🤤
These are truly the best! I’ve made them 3 times, one time I made them with vegan butter in place of coconut oil and they were still truly amazing
LOVE this vegan and gf recipe! I decided to be brave, and use olive oil in place of the coconut oil/butter. I also decreased the sugar to 1/3 cup and the chocolate chips to 1/4 cup. I didn’t know if the cookies were going to spread in the oven because I didn’t use butter, so I flattened them with a cup before putting them in the oven. They turned out so chewy, yet flat at the same time. Will def be making this again! My whole family loved them, even my brother who doesn’t like “healthy” cookies.
So happy they came out well with the olive oil YAY!! Thrilled that the whole fam loved them, too 🥰
I wondered if you have a weight measurement for the flours? Mine seemed drier than yours and they aren’t flattening out. Also, when I combined the coconut oil with the sugar and flax it was separating into a blob of sugar and super liquid coconut. I’m fairly new to flax eggs (I had always combined them separately and added in a gel like clump). Yours look amazing so I’ll keep trying! ❤️❤️❤️
You can delete my previous comment! I tried, again, and it worked much better! I’ll play around with how much to pack the almond flour! Thanks! ❤️
Oh ok! So glad you figured it out 🙂
The BEST gluten free vegan chocolate chips cookies I have ever had. I have tried dozens of recipes and this is the best by far. I use vegan butter instead of coconut oil and they are incredible. Must bake asap!
Hands down my favorite cookies EVER. I’m not vegan or GF and these are still my go to. I took them to a party where someone had an egg allergy and the entire group left with the recipe bc everyone loved them so much. I’d give 10 stars if I could
These are amazing cookies!! You wouldn’t even know they’re vegan and GF. I’m about to make them for the second time 😊
I made these last time- quick and delicious! However I noticed a strong coconut oil taste in my cookie. Did I do something wrong?!
So glad you love them! I like to use virgin coconut oil, which does have a coconutty flavor, but feel free to use refined coconut oil instead, which doesn’t have that strong flavor 🙂
I baked the Blow Ya Mind Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies and LOVED them! I did substitute the Oat flour with Almond flour and the texture was still exquisite. I especially appreciate being able to bake a sumptuous cookie that does not require eggs. This recipe is so delicious that I can eat one and not need to eat another one because my taste buds lingered over the ingredients. Thank you for this fantastic recipe.
So glad they came out amazing! Can’t wait for you to make them again 🙂
I baked these today and they were definitely the best cookies I’ve ever tasted!
Omg best EVER?! I’m so thrilled to hear that!! Thank you!
Is there a way to make these nut free so is there another flour option I can use?
Hi! I’d recommend checking out my other chocolate chip cookie recipes — my chickpea flour chocolate chip cookies might work for you!
Excellent! I used aquafaba in place of the flegg. Would you say this recipe using the equivalent flegg for 1 or 2 eggs? Also, my cookies didn’t flatten out at all during baking, so I pressed the down a little at 10 minutes and put baked in for a minute or two. What do you think went wrong? Love them! Big hit at a party! Thanks
Hi! This recipe uses 1 flax egg. It may have been the aquafaba that gave them a slightly different texture, but glad they were a hit regardless!
The BEST vegan chocolate chip cookie recipe I have found! Added walnuts for extra goodness! Thank you!!
I debated doubling the recipe…and did not (😥)…now I know for next time that I definitely will!!! Sooo freaking good. And for those who were wondering about subbing an egg for the flax and almond milk – it comes out sooo delicious!!
Haha next time!! SO happy they turned out great. And good to know about the egg!
Hi AK! Made these for the first time (huge fan of so many of your recipes!) and they came out VERY flat but extremely tasty. I did a 1:1 sub of coconut oil and instead used earth balance baking sticks. Aside from that I tried making larger cookies. Any thoughts as to why they bake so flat? Should I refrigerate next time? Would a larger scoop make them too heavy or something?
Hi! Hmmm I’m guessing it could be because the cookies were larger, as the earth balance sticks should work out fine! I would suggest making them a bit smaller next time and potentially refrigerating the dough for just a bit! Let me know if that helps 🙂
These cookies are insane. My husband and I have made these FOUR times in the past two days. No shame!! They’re going to be our new go to for chocolate chip cookies (& we aren’t even vegan or gluten-free…they’re that good).
YAYYYY your video looked absolutely gorg, too! Thank you for the sweet comment ❤️
These cookies are delicious and very easy to make.
AH! SO happy to hear you are enjoying this recipe ❤️
THE BEST vegan choco chip cookie to date! I have yet to find a better recipe!! Gracias Monique! This one WINS EVERY TIME!!! NO ONE can tell they are vegan!!
Perfect! So glad you are enjoying this recipe ❤️
SO glad I found this vegan cookie recipe for my girls! It’s seriously so delicious and a recipe they both can eat and love! Thank you!!
Absolutely! So glad you found this one 🙂
These came out SO good!! My 3.5 yr old and 1.5 yr old love them too!
Quick question for you. My cookies never flattened for me (eg they don’t look like the cookies in the recipe photo). Do you know what would cause that?
These are so easy to make and they are a fan favorite even with the people in the house that eat gluten and dairy regularly! I sometimes use vegan butter instead of coconut oil as I’m not a huge fan of the coconut taste and they come out like old fashioned chocolate chip cookies 🙂 They also freeze and keep so well!
Ah I love this! So glad this recipe is a hit and everyone is loving them ❤️🙂
These were SO good! I’ve only been gluten free for maybe 6 months and it’s been hard. I made these and fell in love! I even gave one to my husband who didn’t know they were gluten free/vegan and thought they were regular cookies! Thank you!
Amazing! I’m so glad you found these ones!
Oh my gosh!!! I’m on a gluten free, sugary free vegan diet for cancer treatment and love to bake. I have to admit even I (with my unbreakable will power and taste for healthy things) was getting frustrated trying to bake for myself. But, this morning I got up and decided to try one more recipe – as so many have ended up in the trash. I substituted the sugar for 1/4 tsp. Pure monk fruit sweetener and 2 Tbsp date sugar and this batter is so delicious I don’t know if I will bake cookies with it. I think I’ll eat it all as is and make another batch to bake. I can not thank you enough Monique. And to beat it all, it’s Christmas Day! So, I praise God for you and look forward to trying more of your recipes! PS – I NEVER leave reviews but just couldn’t pass up this opportunity. God bless you.
This is one of my favorite cookie recipes. I have discovered that I can reduce the sugar (coconut sugar) to a half cup and eliminate the chocolate chips and they are still scrumptious! Thank you for the recipe!
These are AMAZING, I made them a couple times now and they always come out perfect! I’ve chilled them for the ten minutes before baking and I’ve just baked them straight after making them, either way they are delicious🤤
YAY! Happy to hear they came out great 🙂
I just made them and am eating one as i type this. After putting in all of the ingredients, i found the mixture too runny so added more oat flour. Now i find that they are very crumbly, falling apart. Guess I had too much oat flour. They’re tasty though! Next time i wanna try vegan butter instead of coconut oil.
Well….my search is over for the best gf chocolate chip cookie!! These are sooooo good! Edges are perfectly chewy and inside is yummy goodness! I did sub with coconut sugar and avocado oil (that’s what I had on hand) but the rest exactly as written. These are super easy to make, you only need 1 bowl and about 8-10 min prep time. Thank you again for another incredible recipe!
YESS! This is awesome, Candis. SO glad you found and are loving this recipe, glad they turned out great for you ❤️
I can’t stop making these cookies! I’ve made them @ least 5 times in the last few weeks! I’ve brought them to work for my coworkers and they’re obsessed! Everyone who’s tried them says they’re the best cookies they’ve ever had! Thank you so much for this recipe!!
AH yay! This is so great. I am so glad you are loving these cookies 🙂
The ONLY vegan chocolate chip cookie you will ever need! Perfection!
Ahhh thank you! I am so glad you’re loving these ❤️
These cookies are amazing! Crispy on the outside and perfect in the middle. I did use coconut sugar and added a few unreal gems to a couple. This will be my go to for chocolate chip cookies.
YUM! I am so glad you gave these a try and are loving them ❤️
Made these scrumptious cookies twice now, substituting the brown sugar for 1/4 cup each maple, coconut, and date sugars. Recipe is wonderfully easy, consistent, and cookies are delicious. Thank you.
YUM! glad to hear you are loving this recipe and they turn out great for you every time!
Made these scrumptious cookies twice now, substituting the brown sugar for 1/4 cup each maple, coconut, and date sugar. I refrigerated the batter for a bit. Recipe is wonderfully easy, consistent, and cookies are delicious. Thank you.
Of course! I am so happy to hear this recipe turns out great for you and you’re loving them, Elyse
These were the best vegan and gluten free choco chip cookies I’ve made. I refrigerated the dough for about 10 minutes before I baked the cookies. It gave the dough a rest and the chance for the flax and coconut oil to gel. Thanks so much for this great cookie recipe. PS I brought them to book club and they were a hit.
Perfect! So glad you loved them!
Second night I am making these cookies! They are a WOWzer! Easy, healthy, (2g fiber?!) and delicious. My husband, 4 year old and 2 year old couldn’t stop eating these. Haha. Thank you for the recipe!
Amazing! Glad they’re a hit with the whole family 🙂
These are the best gluten free cookies I’ve ever made, possible that I’ve ever tasted, in my life! Gluten bothers me sometimes because of some gut health issues so I’m so happy to find this recipe. It’s life changing. I’m truly obsessed.
Amazing! I’m so glad you found these!
I made these before, but today I subbed in vegan butter and added sprinkles and gf Oreos, too! I put them in the fridge for a few hours before baking and WOW! They’re delicious!
Amazing! The Oreos sound delicious!
I have no idea what I did wrong. The cookies never “flattened” nor spread. They didn’t turn the slightest bit brown after 12 min so I kept them in the oven (turned off) in hopes they would brown. I took them out and “pressed down” on them and am waiting for them to cool. Followed the directions to a “T”! Making them for my sister in law so will see what the verdict is. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!
So strange! Was your coconut oil completed cooled? And did you pack your almond flour? It sounds like there may not have been enough liquid or too much flour preventing the cookies from baking properly!
Following the recipe (and I triple checked to see if I missed anything), the consistency did not develop as needed for cookies. It was too dry – a course meal like texture/consistency. I added an egg and that helped. They baked flat BUT I live at 6,000 ft elevation and likely I needed to adjust ingredients to accommodate for this. The taste was delicious though so I will keep trying to recipe to see if I can figure it out!
Hmmm at elevation you might need a bit more liquid! Did they bake up like the photos? They’re not super puffy but should have a nice chew to them!
I’m not vegan or gluten free but this is my go to chocolate chip cookie. They are chewy and packed with chocolate chips and every time I make them for a party people rave about them and they are usually gone by the end of the night.
Amazing! So glad everyone loves them 🙂
I had to do gluten-free/dairy-free for a couple of years and was devastated knowing I couldn’t make my favorite brown butter chocolate chip cookies from AK. Then, I discovered this chocolate chip cookie recipe and realized there was a god. These cookies are phenomenal, and you would NEVER guess that they’re GF and vegan! Even though I can have gluten and dairy again, I still make them. I will give these to folks, and after they try them, tell them they are GF/vegan, and they’re so surprised because you would never be able to tell. This is my second favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe and is only beat out by AK’s brown butter chocolate chip recipe.
I’ve tried exclusively brown sugar and coconut sugar and a mixture, and definitely prefer at least some brown sugar. I think exclusively coconut sugar is a little too much coconut for me, but they’ve turned out no matter which sugar option I choose!
Amazing! So glad you found the perfect alternative 🙂 these are one of my fav recipes, too!
Truly… blew my mind. These were the easiest, most epic chocolate chip cookies. 10/10.
So happy to hear that!
These are my staple cookie recipe. I even double it and bake it in a 9×13 pan for birthdays and they’re ALWAYS a hit.
Love that idea!!
WOW! I was skeptical at first with the consistency of the dough but once these came out of the oven – JUST WOW! sooooo good!!!!!
One of my favs!! Glad you enjoyed 🙂
These are truly amazing. If you don’t do any grains – I substituted the oat flour with tiger nuts flour and it turned out perfect.
I’m glad that swap works out well! Such a great treat 🙂
Is the nutritional value right for sugar in one cookie? It says 14.7g of sugar and Carbs 27.1 in one cookie? Is that correct?
This is correct!
These cookies are SO GOOD!!! I am so very impressed with how well they stay together, which is so often a problem with gluten free baking. The texture is great, just a little crispy and chewy and the flavor is fantastic. A bonus is that because the dough is egg-free, you can safely try a bit before you bake (and it’s delicious!) 🙂
So glad you loved them! They’re one of my fav cookies (vegan and non-vegan!)
This recipe calls for almond milk, but doesn’t specify if it should be sweetened or unsweetened. Can you please advise which one we need to use? Can’t wait to make these cookies!
I typically use unsweetened almond milk 🙂
Can you made this cookies into a bars?
Hmm I haven’t tried it so I’m not 100% sure how the texture will turn out. Let me know if you experiment!
Love this recipe! I doubled the recipe and followed to a T; I used a mix of coconut sugar and brown sugar. Perfect texture and flavour.
Amazing! Such a great treat 🙂
I’m recently gluten free and have been searching for a good chocolate chip cookie recipe-this is it! Made them exactly as the recipe was written – so delicious. Chewy and gooey and full of chocolate! Highly recommend this recipe!
Amazing! Glad you enjoyed!
Wow! These cookies are a hit! My kids and hubby loves it! Thank you for this recipe!
Aw I’m so glad!!
I made these into bar cookies (baked 20 min. In 13×9 pan and cut into 24). They are the most amazing cookies I have ever had. Soooooo good!
YUM that sounds amazing!
Made these with my grandson. He loved them and I loved them. Very yummy and soft. Thank y you!!
So happy to hear that!
This is my favorite cookie recipe ever and my husband who eats “regular” food loves them, too! I use coconut sugar and add chopped walnuts—Wow! Thank you soo much!
Didn’t mean to be anonymous on that last review. Mr. Hubs and I love these cookies.
So happy to hear that!
I tried this recipe using coconut sugar instead of brown sugar, and they turned out amazing! Freshly baked and warm, they are absolutely delicious 🙂
Perfect! So happy to hear that 🙂
This recipe is fantastic! I’ve made these cookies following the recipe and they come out perfect every time. I have also had success making these with butter (instead of coconut oil) and regular flour (instead of oat flour). This is one of our favorite cookie recipes- my son has an egg allergy and it’s so fun having a good cookie recipe he can enjoy making and eating with us.
Amazing! So glad you love these!
