Today’s smoothie is inspired by a classic dose of my childhood nostalgia. Does anyone remember strawberry orange banana juice or even pineapple orange banana juice?
As a kid, both of those juices were some of my absolute favorites. Oh and let’s not forget about my obsession with cherry and orange tangerine Juicy Juice — SO GOOD! This bright, tangy strawberry orange banana smoothie literally tastes JUST like the bottled juices you may have grown up on but is packed with vitamin C and made with just 4 ingredients (no extra sweeteners or fillers here). There are tons of ways to make it your own by boosting the protein, fiber, and nutrition, too!
Curious what your favorite juice was when you were a kid? Drop a comment and maybe I’ll recreate it!

Ingredients in this strawberry orange banana smoothie recipe
You’ll need just 4 simple ingredients to make this dairy free strawberry orange banana smoothie:
- Frozen strawberries: I recommend using frozen strawberries instead of fresh so that you don’t need to add additional ice cubes.
- Banana: feel free to use a fresh or frozen one to naturally sweeten this smoothie.
- Orange: there’s no orange juice concentrate in this recipe, just one fresh orange packed with vitamin C.
- Almond milk: to help get the right consistency and keep the smoothie vegan & dairy-free.
- Toppings: I love topping this smoothie with fresh banana or strawberry slices! Feel free to add granola or even unsweetened coconut flakes, too. Yum!
Can I make it without banana?
Absolutely! You can easily swap the banana for 1 cup of frozen pineapple. It’ll give the smoothie a delicious, tropical flavor!
Choose your favorite milk
I like to use almond milk in my smoothie recipes because I typically have it on hand, but you can use any milk you’d like! For a tropical twist, try coconut milk.
Optional smoothie additions
Feel free to truly make this strawberry orange banana smoothie your own! Here are a few nutritional suggestions:
- Flaxseed meal: this is one of my favorite ingredients to add to smoothies for a little boost of fiber and minerals. It’s especially great for nursing mamas as flaxseed can help increase milk supply. Usually, a tablespoon is plenty. Here’s a brand I love.
- Chia seeds: add in a tablespoon of chia seeds to your smoothie for a boost of healthy fats and fiber.
- Hemp seeds: feel free to throw in those hemp seeds lurking in your cupboard for a boost of healthy fats, omegas and minerals.
- Organic spinach: if you’re looking to get more greens in your smoothie, try adding a few cups of spinach. It may turn the smoothie a different color, but you won’t be able to taste the spinach.
- Greek yogurt: add a boost of protein with a scoop of Greek yogurt (or your favorite, dairy free yogurt). You may have to reduce the almond milk to 1/2 cup in this smoothie when adding yogurt.
- Protein powder or collagen peptides: another great way to add some protein. I recommend a plain or vanilla-flavored protein powder in this recipe or plain collagen. You’ll likely have to increase the milk to help the protein powder blend in well.
Tips for making this orange strawberry banana smoothie
Here are a few of my favorite tips for making this smoothie creamy and delicious:
- Use frozen fruit. Adding frozen instead of fresh fruit to your smoothie will help keep the smoothie cold and thick. Sometimes ice doesn’t blend as well, so it’s best to skip unless absolutely necessary. If you only have fresh fruit, try adding 1 cup frozen cauliflower as it blends much easier than ice.
- Add more liquid. Don’t be afraid to add more liquid if your smoothie is too thick or won’t fully blend. High powered blenders tend to blend frozen fruit much better, so if you have a regular or personal size blender, you may need to add more milk.
- Start low, end high. Start the blender at low speed, then gradually increase the speed to high to help blend all ingredients. End with the blender on low speed.

Looking forward to trying this delicious recipe. I have to laugh when I see recipes with strawberries because I live in the strawberry capital in Florida but they’re the worst, flavorless and bitter. It’s a shame. Best strawberries I’ve ever had with last summer in Vienna Austria sweet small and floral brought that good memories of what a strawberry used to taste like. Still looking forward to trying this hope you are well and always enjoy your recipes.
So interesting! The ones in Vienna sound amazing. Let me know how you like this one!
Wow, this is very light and delicious – so refreshing. I used juicing oranges and added ice to make it a little thinner and frostier. Gonna to add it to my AK favs!
Perfect! So glad you loved this one 🙂
Super yummy and easy to remember ratio of ingredients. I added 2 scoops of the plain collagen peptides linked in the recipe as well as 2 tablespoons of chia seeds. My drink wasn’t as vibrantly red as in the image so I may try adding more strawberries next time.
Absolutely! The color can depend on the ripeness, too, but the taste is all that matters 🙂 glad you enjoyed!
Delish Monique! I added a scoop of collagen powder and a scoop of vanilla protein powder 🙂
Perfect! Such a great breakfast or snack 🙂
Can I use orange juice instead of an orange?
How is this smoothie SO GOOD?? I’m telling you, I think it’s the orange. It gives it a bit of tang that is irresistibly fresh tasting. This smoothie is a treat. I add a heaping handful of spinach to mine so it does turn the color a bit more brown, but it’s still just as delicious and even more nutritious.
Yes!! Love the orange in here 🙂
I am diabetic and i would like to make a smoothie that would give me energy and that it would give me nutrition that would not raise the sugar i am always tired
This is so good. Only change was made it with coconut milk. Highly recommend!!
Oooh I bet this would be INCREDIBLE with coconut milk in it. Thanks for the suggestion!
I tend to always have these ingredients on hand, esp. in the winter. This is a classic strawberry-citrus smoothie. I like it topped with cashew granola, but it’s great as it is, too! I’ve added spinach when I’ve had it on hand and it complements the flavors nicely.
Love this recipe. Super refreshing for summer. I didn’t have frozen strawberries, so I used fresh, and it turned out good. Made two servings and refrigerated one for the next day. Would definitely make again.
Yummm fresh strawberries are a great option! Glad it came out amazing!
Easy, classic strawberry banana smoothie! I like adding vanilla protein powder or granola on top, if I have some on hand.
Love those additions! I’m so glad you’re enjoying it 🙂
I made the orange strawberry banana smoothie and it came out good. I used light vanilla yogurt and a dash of cinnamon for mine. It came out good with all flavors.
Yum! So glad you are enjoying this recipe
