When Tony and I used go to out the movies I always found myself always bringing my own snacks. That’s probably not much of a surprise though. Every once in a while we will splurge on the movie popcorn, but usually, I have a purse packed with my favorite coconut oil and sea salt popcorn, plus a few of these paleo chocolate chip cookies.
Guys, they are RIDICULOUSLY GOOD. Think addicting, thick, chewy, and full of melted dark chocolate puddles. They’ve been an AK reader favorite for 8 years now and YOU NEED THEM.
I had baked these bad boys a few weeks ago, for probably the 150th time. They’re truly one of my favorite better-for-you cookies that still taste just as amazing as the real deal.

What makes these paleo chocolate chip cookies healthier?
Even though I don’t follow a particular diet (and AK is full of recipes for all diet types), I love making paleo treats like these paleo chocolate chip cookies because they:
- Actually fill you up! Because the almond & coconut flours have a natural source of fiber and healthy fats, they keep you full and satisfied.
- Don’t need as much sugar as your typical dessert. A win for avoiding that sugar crash.
- Tend to be lower in carbs in case you’re watching your carb intake.
Ingredients in paleo chocolate chip cookies
Traditionally I’m not a huge fan of using several different gluten-free flours in one recipe. I want the ingredients to be both accessible and have many different uses. So far, almond flour and coconut flour have become my go-to’s when it comes to paleo baking. Here’s what you’ll need to make these paleo chocolate chunk cookies:
- Egg: you’ll just need one egg in this cookie recipe. I think a flax egg will work well, too, they’ll just be a bit more fragile, but you can bake them for a few minutes longer to help them set up.
- Vanilla extract: for that subtle sweet flavor.
- Coconut oil: we’re using a bit of coconut oil to give these cookies the perfect amount of moisture. You can also use olive oil, melted butter or melted ghee.
- Coconut sugar: these paleo cookies are naturally sweetened with coconut sugar! You can also use brown sugar if you’d like.
- Flour: the almond flour & coconut flour help keep these cookies paleo, gluten & grain free.
- Baking soda: to help these cookies bake up properly.
- Dark chocolate: I like to use a 3 oz 70-80% dark chocolate bar to create delicious puddles of chocolate, but feel free to use chocolate chips (even dairy free!)
- Coarse sea salt: I love to sprinkle a little coarse sea salt on the cookies for that amazing sweet & salty flavor.
Customize these paleo chocolate chip cookies
- Make them vegan. Try using a flax egg to make these cookies vegan! Just be sure to use dairy free chocolate chips or chocolate chunks as well and handle them carefully as they’ll be a bit more fragile. I typically let them cool completely on the baking sheet before removing them.
- Swap your oil. Feel free to use olive oil, butter or ghee in place of the coconut oil.
- Pick your fav add-ins. I love chopping up a dark chocolate bar to create puddles of chocolate in every bite, but you can get creative with any chocolate you’d like or even add nuts, or dried fruit.
Can I use all-purpose flour?
Unfortunately, no, I can’t recommend swapping the flour in this recipe as the texture will not turn out the same.
How to make paleo chocolate chip cookies
-
Mix the wet ingredients. In a large bowl, mix together your beaten egg, melted and cooled coconut oil, coconut sugar and vanilla extract. (Please make sure your coconut oil is cool!)
- Add the dry ingredients. Add in your two flours and baking soda, mixing well to combine and form a dough. Fold in dark chocolate chunks. You may need to use your hands to moisten the dough so that it sticks together well.
- Scoop & bake. Use a cookie scoop or large tablespoon to drop dough onto an ungreased baking sheet. Gently flatten the dough with your hand. Bake for 11-13 minutes, or until the edges are slightly golden brown.
- Garnish, cool & serve. Sprinkle with coarse sea salt and allow to cool on a cookie sheet for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to finish cooling. Then enjoy!
Storing and freezing tips
Get my full tutorial for freezing baked cookies and cookie dough here! To store and freeze these already-baked cookies:
- To store: feel free to keep these paleo chocolate chip cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for 1-2 days, then transfer to the fridge or freezer.
- To freeze: make sure the cookies are completely cooled, and then transfer them to an airtight container lined with wax or parchment paper or a freezer-safe bag before storing them in the freezer for up to 2 months. I like to place them in a single layer to avoid any cookies breaking. Once ready to eat, simply thaw out at room temperature and enjoy!

Lovely!! So these are only sweetened by the chocolate? Thank you!!
Sorry, there is coconut sugar in these. Just fixed!
Hi Monique! Love the video, super short and to the point!
By the way, I think the coconut sugar is not listed in the recipe…
Thank you — all fixed 🙂
These look so perfect Monique!! 🙂 Would Trader Joe’s semi sweet chocolate chunks work too instead of a chopped bar? I always have those on hand! Thanks so much for the recipe and video. <3
Of course! I would recommend 1/2 cup of chocolate chunks (those are my fav!)
Hi Monique! I love all your paleo recipes but am not a friend of the texture/flavor eggs add ( I know it’s not super obvious and noticeable but I generally bake vegan treats so do tend to notice a difference) Your double chocolate paleo bars worked super well with a chia egg (I ate those bars every chance I got!), do you think that would work here too? Thanks so much!
Hi! I haven’t tested them as a vegan recipe so I’m really not sure how they would work. I’m pretty sure the banana bread bars worked as they also had the banana to act as a binder. I’m not sure how these cookies would hold up, the egg not only stabilizes the recipe but also makes them nice and chewy. Let me know if you try it.
I made with flax eggs and turned out delish! thanks these are my go-to!
Hi Monique! If I were to make these cookies vegan could I sub a chia egg for the real egg? Thanks!
Hi Kyle! I haven’t tested these with a vegan egg substitute, so I’m not sure what the results will be. Please let me know if you give it a try!
Yep! Chia seeds worked and they were delicious!
Just wondering if you had a chance to try the egg substitution? would love to know if it worked.
Just made these with a chia egg and they turned out fantastic! The whole house smells like heaven.
What is a chia egg?????
Those chunks though! Wow these cookies are perfection!!
Oh yum!! I can practically taste that ooey gooey chocolate!
Is it possible to sub regular sugar for the coconut sugar?
Yes, you can use cane sugar or organic sugar.
Could I use erythritol instead of cocount sugar, I am in keto.
I’ve never tried it, but let me know if you do!
These look fantastic! My boyfriend and I love creating healthy desserts can’t wait to share this one with him, he is a chocolate lover!
These look so good. I’ve been making “paleo” chocolate chip cookies almost weekly, too. Love their rustic look 🙂
Could I use stevia in place of the coconut sugar? And if so, how much?
I don’t use stevia for baking because I’m not sure about it’s potential long-term effects. However, I know a lot of people who are diabetic due find it helpful. Let me know if you end up trying this recipe with stevia — I’m not sure what the ratios would be but I’m sure you could find a conversion chart on Google perhaps?
I just made these with Stevia. I replaced all coconut sugar with about 1/2 tsp Sweet Leaf Stevia powder then tasted the batter before I divided & baked. I added just a hint more stevia because (true confessions) I LOVE SUGAR! I also went heavy on the vanilla because really, stevia has a little bitter aftertaste and the vanilla helps cloak that. These are delicious. I am expecting that the swap brings the caloric value of the cookie down by approximately 30 calories/cookie if the bath made 12. I only got 10 after sampling a few spoons (heaping) of the batter.
I just made this recipe using Xylitol and it worked great! I get migraines from coconut sugar and prefer not to use cane sugar. Thank you!!
Did you use cup for cup or did you have to change the amount of xylitol?
These look delicious! Do you know if they will freeze okay?
They do!!! And they’ll last in the fridge for a week. 🙂
Love your recipes! Do you freeze the dough before it is cooked? Or do you freeze it once you have already baked it?
I’m so glad! You can actually do either – check out my post here to see how 🙂
Just made these and they are fabulous, although not quite as beautiful as yours 🙂
That’s so great to hear!! I’m very strategic about my chocolate chunks 😉
Im so looking forward to making these soon. I don’t keep coconut oil but will try the olive oil option. Could i skip the coconut flour too? Thanks.
Hi Tamara, I don’t think that’s an option. Changing the recipe in any way shape or form can alter the final result, and I would not recommend leaving out coconut flour.
Is the dough good? I have tried so many coconut flour recipes lately and found the texture was so gross. I’m willing to give them a try.
These look delicious and I love the video!!
I’m pretty sure ALL versions of chocolate chip cookies you make are addicting!!
Hi Monique – looking forward to trying these soon – would it be possible to just use coconut flour as almond flour in the UK is pretty expensive? Can’t wait to try them! 🙂
Rebecca, try Amazon.com to buy the almond flour for less. I bought a 1-pound bag for $13.49 still not cheap, but better than at my local grocery store.
I tend to buy from Aldi when I need some, they do ground almonds for £1.39 for 180g.
Just made these cookies and WOW! So yummy! I didn’t have coconut sugar or dark chocolate in the house so I used old fashioned brown sugar and mini semi-sweet morsels.
Will definitely make again — soon!
Hi! This sound delicious but my husband is allergic to nuts – what is a substitute for almond flour?
That’s tough. I haven’t tried anything else but almond and hazelnut flour in this recipe, and changing the ingredients may alter the results of the recipe. Sorry!
Casava or plantain flours have substituted just fine for me on a 1:1 bases for nut flours.
Keep in mind that has always been for savory dishes I have never tried it in THIS recipe, you may want to make half a batch (maybe use the other half of the egg to test another recipe?) to see if you need to adjust any of the other ingredients.
Oh, wow. These are GOOD. I made them exactly as is. First, I couldn’t stop eating the dough (which is bad because I’m pregnant and there is raw egg). I just had my first one and I am going back for another. Love how these are healthy to help keep my pregnancy weight gain in check, but also totally craving satisfying! I will be making these again, for sure. Thank you!
You are so welcome!!
Oh my goodness, these look and sound like heaven!
xx Kelly

Hi Monique!
These look so delicious! I’m inspired to make some. I loved the video tutorial. It’s fast and easy to follow. I’ve been thinking about making a recipe video for my own blog, but haven’t yet! Do you edit it yourself? Well done 🙂 Can’t wait to try these cookies!
Can i subtitute coconut sugat with erythritol.?
I am THRILLED you decided to post a new video! I put it on my Watch Later list so I can see it first thing! Anyways, these cookies look melt-in-your-mouth delicious!
These were so good and very easy to make. I won mom of the year yesterday b/c these were fresh out of the oven when the kids got home from school 🙂
These were so good, my family ate them up!!!
Monique, nowhere in your instructions does it say when to add the sugar! I reached the very end and had very funky dough. I added the sugar, but the dough was all off, so I wasted a lot of ingredients, but the cookies were still very, very good. Just FYI if you want to correct your instructions!
OMG! Thank you. Just fixed it. I hope you’ll give them another shot. xoxo!
Did you use the almond meal/flour from Trader Joes or did you use a finely ground almond flour (like Bob’s Red Mill)? Would both work in this recipe?
I have tested the recipe with both almond meal and almond flour. It works either way.
Of course. 🙂 I’m actually going to make them again tonight! In case anyone wants to know, these cookies are just as delicious with twice the eggs, almond flour and coconut flour. I kept adding things until my dough looked like yours in the picture! I’ll be curious to see if they taste even better when I follow the recipe correctly!
Love how easy this recipe is – I’ll have to make it for my boys!
[…] these best ever paleo chocolate chip cookies? oh my gosh. they are SO good. I’ve made them twice this week. we aren’t paleo, but […]
Looks scrumptious! A definite must have Saturday sweet treat! Thanks for sharing!
These turned out amazing. We veganized them by using 3 tbs of aquafaba in place of the egg. I have to admit, they were all gone within minutes, like a proper chocolate chip cookie should be. LOL.
Yum! I too use s mix of flours in my gf/Paleo baking. I find they have a better texture this way.
These were awesome! Thank you Monique for the great recipe. I love that they are a nice treat but fill you up so you can have them as a decent snack. I popped one before my workout yesterday morning and it was perfect. I couldn’t get over how great the texture turned out. You must have tested them a lot to get the texture so perfect. Love what you do! Keep’em coming 🙂
Ummmmmm holy yum!!! Just made these and we are all obsessed! I’m a little mad I made these and tasted how wonderful they are because now I fear I will be making them more than just once a week (my kids will appreciate, my waist will not haha)! Thanks for yet another amazing healthier cookie recipe!
These were absolutely fantastic!!! Mega yummies and easy to make 🙂
Just made these with Trader Joes dark chocolate chips and dried cranberries and they are INCREDIBLE!
Just made these cookies using Lily’s Vegan Dark Chocolate Chips and they are delicious! Thank you for this awesome recipe! My new favorite!
These. are. ridiculous. Ridiculously GOOD! I’ve never made cookies with coconut flour, coconut sugar or almond flour before, and not gonna lie, I actually prefer these to my Mom’s recipe. Also, the fact that you made a video showing just how simple they are was a huge motivator to make them. Can’t wait to check out more of your recipes. Thanks!

Amazing. Hope you loved them!
Hi Monique I just made these and they are absolutely fantastic ! I used a mix of hazelnut flour and almond flour and it is so tasty ! Coul d even have dialled down the sugar a bit but hey they are a treat right ?! 🙂 Have a lovely Sunday x
These are truly amazing! And super simple to make!! Thank you so much for the recipe 🙂 Anyone thinking about making these… DO IT!!! So so good!
Thanks for saying so — you made my day!
Just made these and happy to report that they are amazing. My 7 year old said they were the best cookies he’s ever had ? For sure will be making this again. Thank you!!
Hello. This was my first time making a paleo/gf cookie. They came out pretty tasty but are a little too coconut-y for my liking (I think maybe I used too much coconut oil, which I will adjust next time). However, something might have been off with my dough overall b/c it was brown in color, not light like yours. Maybe I just need to use a little more almond flour & a little less coconut sugar, but I welcome any thoughts/suggestions you have. I will definitely be trying again. Thanks!

Omg I made these last night and it took a lot of willpower not to eat them all! It’s funny cause I’m also going to a movie today and I’m bringing them as a snack lol
These have quickly become my go-to favorite cookies 🙂 So easy and so tasty.
[…] These cookies look amazing […]
I made these yesterday and they turned out SO good. I subbed the coconut sugar for raw honey and they didn’t turn out as tall but they were still so so yummy. The best paleo cookie I’ve ever had.
I just got these out of the oven. Just took a bite after letting one cool a little bit… & sorry, wanted to love these, but they are just Ok. They are more of a breakfast cookie, not sweet, more of a bread texture. I’ll have it with my coffee in the a.m. Coconut sugar is not sweet… Oh well, a fun experiment.
I love this recipe! Super easy and so healthy! Protein packed, so I make them for my kids when they have long days of activities. After making the first batch as-is, I wanted to add some more…flavor. Richness. So I now add 2-4 T of peanut butter powder and mwah! Deelish. But awesome either way to be sure.

Could I just use more coconut flour instead of the almond flour? I’m on the AIP diet and can’t have any seeds or nuts. Thanks!!!!!!
I just made these subbing applesauce for the coconut oil, raw honey for coconut sugar, and raisins for the chocolate. Omg SO GOOD! My batter was a little soft due to the changes in ingredients so I added a few extra TB of coconut flour. Much lower in fat and calories if anyone was looking for a lower calorie option.
I can’t get over how amaaazing these are!! Such a perfect recipe in every way. …you’re the best Monique!! Thank you for all your brilliant creations. We LOVE your recipes!!

I just made these and the dough was WAY more wet than yours. I double checked all the amounts and everything looked good. I wonder if it’s because I’m in AZ and everything is just so much hotter / more melty?? It also could have been because I scooped then leveled the flours into the batter, so maybe it was slightly less flour / more air? Did you do that? Maybe I used a larger egg? Anyway, they turned out a totally different texture than yours but still SUPER delish – I couldn’t stop eating the dough! I always love your recipes thanks SO MUCH for sharing!!! <3 Bri
hi Monique, could you please write the ml of your cup you used 🙂 I am using 240 ml cup ? is it ok ? the taste is so delicious but my cookies got large and larger 🙂 I did sth wrong maybe the coconut is the problem cause ı couldnt find coconut flour , i used flaked coconut 🙂

I’ve made these numerous times now after a friend recommended them, and they are fantastic!! I wouldn’t say they’re a healthy substitute to normal/traditional chocolate chip cookies because they’re not quite the same. Rather, I’d say these are in a different category: much more moist, rich with hints of coconut that do not overpower the cookie, and an excellent satiation for the carb- and sugar-wary sweet tooth. Be sure to at least double the recipe because 12 cookies will NOT be enough!
I just made these for my family and they were a HIT! We devoured every last one of them. YUM. Thank you!

OMG I made these today! I finally found chocolate chips in the store that are gluten free and didn’t have soy lecithin in them (ENJOYLIFE). They even taste good! I searched the entirety of the enter webs until I found this recipe, It is amazing that there are people like Monique out there in their test kitchens experimenting with all of these whole food ingredients! I love cooking but I grew up with Betty Crocker and most of these ingredients are not interchangeable. You have to relearn everything. I don’t have time or money for mistakes. Thank you for making a palatable and delicious recipe that I can trust to be delicious. Which is perfect because I have recently been diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder and love that I can still bake and enjoy a homemade chocolate chip cookies with my children on a snow day. Mine did have some cat hair in them, did you have that problem? 😉
nom!!! I love simple, clean, minimalist baking and these are delish! substituted 3/4c brown rice flour since I was out of coconut flour, and swapped almond extract for vanilla extract since I was out of that too. definitely making these again! thanks for making healthy, yummy baking recipes accessible and enjoyable!
Monique, I’ve been lurking on your blog for a while but never made one of your recipes. After printing this one out a while ago, I finally felt motivated to make these and loved them! In fact, I loved them so much that I made a batch in the early evening yesterday and decided to make a second batch a couple of hours later! They are too good not to share with others! Thank you 🙂
WOW! I substituted 2 TBSP cocoa powder for 2 TBSP of the coconut flour. Fudge-a-licious!
Just made these!
Just as fantastic as all your other recipes – and boyfriend approved too!!
Thanks for always being such an inspiration for women – you go girl
The number one ingredient in the Trader Joe’s chocolate chunks is cane sugar. This is NOT paleo!!!
These are great! I do a lot of gf baking but usually use a gf flour mix (like Bob’s) so was curious about how these would be. Love them. Not too sweet (like so many desserts are) but definitely sweet enough. I used 1/2 butter and 1/2 coconut oil (because I like the richness butter adds, and was low on coconut oil) and texture was perfect (I love that they aren’t greasy like a lot of choc chip cookies.) And I doubled the recipe because when I make cookies I like to have lots! Toddler approved:-)
Awesome! So glad you (and the kiddos) approve 🙂

So great to hear that the whole family enjoyed these! They’re an awesome treat for the week (and perfect for dietary restrictions!)
These are fantastic. I am trying to make healthier treats for my family.
Amazing! So glad you enjoyed these.
These look awesome! Any idea how the dough holds up in the freezer?
The dough should freeze just fine!
OMG so good! I’ll be making these again and again and again…
So glad you enjoyed!!

What is the best low carb low sugar chocolate bar to use in these? From a store? In a similar recipe I used 86% sugar free chocolate and it was horrible.
Hi Janet! Generally speaking the higher the percentage the lower the sugar and the more bitter the chocolate taste. I would recommend using 70-80% but not completely sugar-free!
Hi! This might seem like an odd question, but do you think I could bake / cook these on an electric griddle? 5 mins, then a flip and 5 mins more? I am thinking to try this at preschool and want a recipe that will cater to all children, with respect to food allergies / sensitivities or parents nutritional wishes. We don’t have an oven, just the electric griddle pan. Thoughts?
Hi! I’m actually not sure – the consistency might not hold up very well on a griddle unfortunately, so I would stick with an oven and pre-bake them!
Hi, I know you probably get a lot of these questions, but can I substitute coconut sugar with a artificial sweetener (like Swerve) and if so, do you know how much I should use? Thank you! 😊
Hi Tiara! I don’t typically bake with artificial sweeteners, but I do know that they are much sweeter than natural ones so I would use less.
Hi,
Thanks for your sharing of the recipe, it’s easy to make and taste good, and I have used vegan egg instead.
Will try again with maple syrup next time.
Thanks again.
Hi Tobi! So glad you enjoyed these. A vegan egg is perfect!
😋😋😋
OMG! To me, these are the “holy grail” of chocolate cookies and even better because they are paleo! They were so easy to make and better than the usual tollhouse recipe I grew up with. I chopped up the chocolate super fine so when it baked, the cookies came out into flat discs- which I happen to LOVE a cookie like that. So I was very pleased! The best part about paleo baking is that you actually get filled up and even though they are such delicious cookies, I was very satisfied after only eating two. With other cookies made with regular flour, I tend to overeat. Thank you for this recipe. It is absolutely going to be a keeper! I have a feeling this might be one of those recipes I have memorized after a while! 🙂
So happy to hear that, Brittany! These are definitely my go-to paleo chocolate chip cookie 🙂 Enjoy!
Isn’t there sugar in chocolate? That would make these non-paleo, right? Also, do you know how xylitol would be in this recipe? I’m border-line diabetic, so the less sugar, the better. I love xylitol as my sweetener, but I’ve yet to try it in baking, but I’d love to make some cookies that we can all enjoy. Thanks!
Dark chocolate is actually paleo! I’ve never tried using xylitol as I try to use all-natural sugars whenever possible. Let me know if you do try it in this recipe!
Ok, I’ll have a look the next time I’m at the store. If not, I might try carob chips instead. I’m really looking for a tasty chocolate chip cookie I can actually eat and that I feel ok giving to my son! 🙂

These look delicious – would it be possible to use maple syrup or rice malt syrup in place of the coconut sugar? If so, do you have any idea roughly on quantities?
Hi Abbie! 1/2 cup of maple syrup should work, just note that the texture might not hold up as well.
Thanks Monique!
I just made them – they are indeed delicious. i added a lot more coconut oil and extra almond too, until i got to the consistency in your video, as the maple syrup was obviously quite liquidy and changed the texture (as you said it might). They’re so good. Thanks for the recipe and your additional help 🙂
I’m so glad the swaps worked out for you! Enjoy 🙂
These are amazing! Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. We look forward to trying some more! My husband is trying a starch free diet for health reasons. We all missed cookies!
I’m so glad you guys enjoyed! Such a great go-to for that cookie craving!
I’ve made these cookies several times and they are indeed some of the BEST cookies I’ve ever had. I love the quick, simple and relatively healthy recipe. I’m so happy to hear that, Michelle! These are definitely one of my go-to’s for that cookie craving 🙂
Monique –
I rarely leave comments but these cookies are amazing and super easy! My 6 year old who loves bread and wheat flour even loves them! I did switch out the coconut oil for butter as I prefer the flavor but both ways are great! Good luck with your blogging!

Hi, my name is Lauran and I have previously made these cookies for my Mom, and we both love them! I am trying to make these for her birthday without her noticing, so I was wondering if I could freeze the dough one night and make it the next day or so? Would the cookies still taste the same?
Hi Lauran! Sorry for the delay 🙂 I think that should work – I would just recommend letting the dough come to room temperature before baking!
These cookies look delicious! I love the recipe! And they are gluten and dairy free which means that I can eat them without any fear!
I’m so glad!!
Thank you so much for this amazing recipe! I have tried so many versions, and this is the only one I will ever make again! I did end up using 2 ounces raw honey in with coconut sugar to total 1/2 cup sweetener (the cookie still held its shape while cooking). Thanks again for sharing!!!
Amazing! Glad those swaps worked out 🙂

Hi: Do you think ghee would sub well for coconut oil? What do you think? Thanks!
I think that should be fine! The flavor might just change a bit – I find that ghee has more of nutty flavor.
Hi Monique. I’m new to paleo and found these, always wondered how chocolate is considered paleo. I know you recommend 80% dark, but it still has some sugar. Some people even use semi-sweet and freely call it paleo. I thought paleo was sugar free? Could you enlighten me.
I was wondering the same thing. I didn’t realize coconut sugar is ok on paleo

Thank you thank you thank you for posting this recipe! I’ve been struggling with food sensitivities and this was my first Christmas with the new lifestyle. I was really missing baking but then I found these cookies and they have completely satisfied my baking urges! I made them three times over the holidays (and a few times since), and each time I had to fight off the rest of my family to eat my share. I was worried that they would taste too coconut-y, especially because the batter does, but they bake up beautifully with an amazing texture. I’ve tried lots of chips, from Lily’s to my neighborhood grocer’s organic; I’ve added walnuts and pecans, too. Every batch has been luscious. Again, many thanks!
Amazing! So happy you found these, Rebecca. They’re one of my go-to’s too 🙂
I’m not sure if I did something wrong, but mine did not turn out very good at all 🙁
Sorry to hear that! I’m not sure what could’ve gone wrong – I would double check your ingredient ratios.

This is our favorite recipe for cookies right now. I’ve been making them for a year now and have done different things with them. I’ve used Pascha 100% chocolate chips to reduce sugar intake. And I’ve done 85% Paschas as well. I then found Lily’s chocolate chips, sweetened with stevia. Both are equally as good!
I roll some of them in shredded coconut too. I love coconut and my husband is not a huge fan. I use TJs brand coconut oil that does not have all the coconut flavor.
This morning I added some bacon bits to a few of the cookies. Yes bacon. And OH MY GOODNESS!
Thank you. We love your recipes!!
I’m so glad you love these! LOVE the idea of shredded coconut and who can say no to some salty bacon 🙂 Thanks for your comment!

Monique thank you for this AMAZING recipe! It’s a staple in our house. Whenever new friends try these cookies no one believes they’re gluten/dairy free!! I have food sensitivities and these cookies are better than the chocolate chip cookies i used to eat before changing my diet. Can I use erythritol instead of coconut sugar? Thanks, Lisa
These were a huge hit!! We loved the texture and they had just the right amount of sweetness for my kids too! i wish i had doubled up on the recipe!
So happy to hear that! You’ll have to make a double batch next time 🙂
I really liked the flavor but they are so crumbly. They fall apart when trying to eat and I sort of choked on the dryness. Maybe I did something wrong but am thinking if I make them again, I should add more oil. Any thoughts? Thanks!
I have never had this issue with these cookies and I’m not sure anyone else has either. Did you follow the recipe as written? I would maybe suggest trying again!
Made these last night and they turned out pretty great. I forgot to flatten them before I stuck them in the oven, so had to take them out and do it in the middle – oopsie! Definitely an important step. Love your blog and will be following along. Just finished Whole30 and feel so good decided to keep Paleo. Thanks for the great resource.
Whoops! Still delicious either way 🙂 Glad you’re finding some great recipes here Heather!
Absolutely delicious! I am dairy, egg and grain free so I made these with a flax egg and they turned out fantastic. I made a smaller size cookie so I was able to get 17 out of the batch of dough and I also used kosher salt to sprinkle on the cookie (I sprinkled it on after I pushed the cookie down and before I cooked them). Thank you for a great paleo chocolate chunk cookie 🙂
So glad you found these ones! The perfect paleo treat 🙂
These were great. I didn’t have coconut sugar, so I subbed in half honey, and half maple syrup… It worked perfectly. I just had to watch closely that the bottoms didn’t burn.
Glad those swaps worked out! One of my go-to cookies.
These look so good! The sea salt at the end is so delicious!
Thanks for sharing! Does it keep long?
Wow! These taste so much like regular chocolate chip cookies. I am an avid baker and have been looking for something like this since I switched to low carb eating. Is it the combination of almond and coconut flour that keeps them from overspreading?
Glad you found these ones! And yes I like to use a mix of almond coconut flour in lots of my lower carb/gluten free baked goods to give them the perfect texture.
I made these cookies and they came out perfectly….. and I am at a high altitude location. I used a high quality bag of chocolate chips instead. Thank you very much, good bye Toll House.
Amazing! So happy to hear that.
Made these last night. We’ve had a rainy evening here in NJ so the cookies were perfect with a cup of turmeric milk. I have made a mistake and measured out 1/2 cup of coconut flour instead of a 1/4 and it was too late to take it out.
I added 1 flax egg in addition to the regular egg in the recipe and it worked out just fine.
Thank you for this recipe and for your site. It’s great and I always resort to it for inspiration and new ideas.

Coconut/Palm shortening works far better than the coconut oil (and has just as much health value). It makes a cookie that is less greasy, and more chewy, with more volume.
Can I use maple syrup instead of coconut sugar?
Yes but you may need to reduce the amount by a few tablespoons! Also make sure you let the cookies sit on the baking sheet for a bit after they are done cooking as maple syrup will make the cookies more soft.
my most favorite paleo cookies!
The best! I’ve made these 5 times already. So quick and easy. I use avocado or olive oil instead of coconut. I use 1oz of chocolate chips and 1oz chopped walnuts. And I bake for 15 min since I like mine a bit more chewy. Thank you so much!
This recipe is so good and easy to make!!! I’m so grateful. I’m thinking of baking and giving them as gifts for Christmas.
I’m so glad you love them! That would be such a fun Christmas gift 🙂
I make these all the time. So easy and quick. Delicious!
The best easy treat!
Can you swap anything for the coconut sugar and coconut flour? I have monkfruit sweetner and xyitol and was wondeirng if I could sub one of those, and any other flours for the coconut flour
Hi! I haven’t tried using an alternative sweetener in these, so I’m not sure how much of either of those would work. I’d recommend sticking with the flours here, too, as the consistency will likely change with swaps.
Great recipe! I love the texture of these cookies. Taste too! 🙂
So delicious! Glad you loved them 🙂
My fiance at 11 of these in the time it took me to take a shower…I think that says it all 😂 delicious! And so easy!
Haha I’m glad they were a big hit! You’ll have to double the batch next time 😉
These were great!! And so easy to make! I was wondering if you could do all almond flour instead of adding coconut flour? I’m not a huge fan of the coconut flavor in the cookies. Other than that I love ’em!
Glad you love them! Instead of coconut flour you can try using oat flour. otherwise feel free to try my almond flour chocolate chip cookies: https://www.ambitiouskitchen.com/almond-flour-chocolate-chip-cookies/

Perfect! So glad you enjoyed!
So easy! So yummy! Will definitely make again
Glad you liked them!!
Holy heavens hallelujah! I make cookie dough at least once a week for my husband who is a chocolate chip cookie fanatic, but after learning more about gluten we decided to make some changes. I was so scared that I wasn’t going to be able to find a healthy cookie that he would like as much as the ones he has been eating everyday for the past five years (I’m not kidding), and this one is better than my regular cookies! Thank you so so much! You are an angel!
I made exactly as written with a flax egg and they were prefect!
Amazing! I’m so happy you found these and that you both love them 🙂 the perfect treat!
Absolutely phenomenal
My favorites, too!
I’ve made these a million times. I usually don’t have coconut oil or coconut sugar on hand so I just use butter and brown sugar. They are so freakin’ good, best GF cookies on the web. And so quick to make, I usually make it while I’m waiting for dinner to roast/simmer/etc. Even my hubby asks for them and he hates allergen-friendly foods. They soften up in the Tupperware overnight so I put them in the toaster oven for a few minutes to get the edges crispy again, and it’s like they were baked fresh. Love this recipe and love you Monique!
Perfect! So glad you love these and great tip with the toaster oven – YUM.
Hands down my favorite cookie recipe ever! I make it at least once a week and have the recipe memorized at this point. I use the 85% dark chocolate and sometimes add pecans or walnuts…either way, turns out perfectly every single time and they are just as delicious reheated (I store them in the fridge). Amazing!
Amazing! I’m so glad!
This is my new favorite cookie recipe! Wow!!! Even my picky husband was like,”wow, you can definitely make these again” and was trying to convince the kids that they don’t want any. (The only thing I added which probably doesn’t make any difference is 1/4 banana that my daughter didn’t finish eating. Just mashed it up in there. A normal yellow banana, not overly ripe…so may add half a banana next time and see if it’s even more delicious, which I’m not sure is possible! Thanks for sharing!
So glad you guys loved these! One of my fav cookies 🙂
Can you sub coconut oil for a different ingredient?
Butter or vegan butter will work well!
Just made my second batch of these delicious cookies 🍪 after the first batch was amazing! Thanks for sharing your delicious recipe. 💓
So happy you loved them!
I am always skeptical with almond flour but the coconut flour in this really offsets that flavor. Neither are too strong. The only tweak I made was butter instead of coconut oil. These were soft on the inside, but didn’t fall apart, and the edges were crispy. I WILL be making these often. Thank uou!
Perfect! So glad you loved these!
We added a little bit of oats which I’m sure made them no longer paleo but it was a very nice touch!! This recipe made it into our little book of favorites which is not easy to get into
I’m glad that worked out well! Such a great treat 🙂
I was reluctant to go for a recipe that yields a healthier option by using coconut everything, but let me tell you it paid off for sure. This cookie was a hit all around. They came out perfect in every way and definitely hit the spot with everyone’s sweet tooth. They are soft and light, airy and chocolatey, filling and better than grabbing for a Chips Ahoy.
So happy you found this one! More delicious than Chips Ahoy 😉
Wow! I just took a batch out of the oven and allowed to cool for ten minutes. Prepared as written but used olive oil and half a cup of Enjoy Life dark chocolate morsels. Baked 11 minutes. They are SO good! 😋 Moist and delicious. I sprinkled sea salt on top just before baking. I will be making these often.
Thank you Monique! ❤️🍪
Perfect! So glad you loved them!
So good! Moist and sweet but not overly sweet. Kids loved them also.
Absolutely! Glad they were kiddo-approved too 🙂
These are FANTASTIC! Quick & easy to whip up a batch. The sea salt is DIVINE! I actually used a mix of paleo semi-sweet and white chocolate chips and they were a hit. I also used Anthony’s Almond Meal Flour (Natural Unblanched) and it worked great.
Amazing! Glad that flour worked out well 🙂
These were amazing! I doubled the recipe (so glad I did). I used brown sugar because I forgot to get coconut sugar, but next time I will use coconut sugar.
Perfect! Happy to hear that 🙂
These were so good! Hubby cringed that I wasn’t making “regular chocolate chip cookies,” but he ate 8 of them in less than a day…
They’re sneaky good! Glad you both enjoyed 🙂
These cookies are delicious. I’m often weary of paleo desserts because sometimes they taste too much like coconut flour, etc and then land so far away from the indulgence that we’re looking for. So happy to have found this recipe, will make this my go to.
So glad you loved this one! I’ll always make desserts delicious first and healthy second 😉

Hi Monique, when I scooped my mix it all started to crumble. I used my hands to create a ball but it would not stick together. Please help!
Hi! That doesn’t seem right, especially if you follow the recipe exactly as written. I suggest trying again. These cookies should not be crumbly.
Love them even more than the AK tahini chocolate chip cookies (love tahini, but the flavor and texture aren’t my fave after a couple of days). Great chewy texture, reminds me of oatmeal cookies. An absolute no-fail paleo/clean cookie recipe, and my new go-to!
I’m glad you found these ones! Perfect treat 🙂
delicious recipe! I used a chia egg (allergic to real eggs) and brown sugar since I didn’t have any coconut sugar on hand. They turned out great and I’ll definitely make this again!
Perfect! I’m glad that worked out well!
My go to chocolate chip cookie. And they’re kid approved.
So happy to hear that!

Yes that would be great! Enjoy 🙂

Love that! Glad you enjoyed 🙂
So easy to bake! & they taste delicious!! My favorite paleo chocolate chip cookie recipe I’ve tried. 😊
I’m so glad! 🙂
Can’t wait to make these tomorrow for. a Halloween get together! Quick question, if I don’t have flaky sea salt for the top, should I add some salt to the dough?
They should be delicious without it!
These are amazing! I didn’t have dark chocolate on hand so I used chocolate chips and they still turned out great! I love ALL of your recipes!
Perfect! So glad you enjoyed!
Loved the texture and nutty subtle almond notes in this, Came together so easily and a great way to cap off a meal in those cool months when you’re roasting vegetables anyway,, and that activation energy to preheat the oven seamlessly overlaps 😉 delicious with a payoff disproportionately better than the minimal effort it takes to put them together!
Absolutely! Glad you loved these!
These were absolutely delicious! I am not paleo, just had to try these thanks to the pictures! I made a batch for our visiting family and everyone RAVED about them. No one had any idea they were “healthy” 😊 the sea salt at the end is a game changer!! Also – so easy to make!
Amazing! So happy to hear that 🙂
Me and my family’s new favorite cookie recipe!!! These are fantastic! I made smaller cookies and ended up with about 17. My baby girl who just turned one loves them as an after dinner treat, and my husband just about ate them all before I hid them. So so good! Amazing recipe and thanks for sharing, Monique!
Amazing! So glad they were a hit with the whole fam 🙂
These were simple and wonderful. We loved the texture and flavor.
So happy to hear that!
These were SO easy to make and came out perfectly. I swapped the coconut sugar for monkfruit sweetener, because that’s what I had, and I used Lily’s dark chocolate chips…also added some unsweetened shredded coconut! The cookies had just the right amount of sweetness. I imagine that by using Lily’s chocolate chips and monkfruit, the carb/sugar count way is less too.
I’m glad that worked out well! 🙂
These cookies are as promised – delicious,& easy to make. I would not change a thing!
Absolutely! Glad you liked them 🙂
Can’t wait to try these this weekend. I was curious if you had any dough rolling tips to get them as thick as you did? I see you say just 1 tbsp of dough and slightly flatten but is that it? Would love any tips!!
The cookies will be nice and thick! Feel free to put them in the fridge before rolling a bit, too, if you want them even thicker.
Easier to make and very tasty.
Absolutely!
I just made these! They’re very good with a nice chewy texture. I got 19 small cookies. I didn’t have coconut sugar so used brown instead. This recipe will be one of my repeats for sure! Thanks.
Perfect! Glad you liked them!
These really are the BEST! They are so easy to make, don’t require specialty ingredients or special equipment, and taste incredible! Almond flour baked goods can be hit or miss, so the magic that happens with this blend is out of this world. Awesome recipe, Monique!
Absolutely! Glad you enjoyed!

I’ve tried a ton of Paleo chocolate chip cookie recipes. These were my favorite so far. I cut the coconut sugar in half because I ran out but they were still amazing!
I’m glad they turned out well! Perfect dessert 🙂
These cookies are a staple at home. They turn out perfectly every time and they are a special treat I feel good giving my family. I have 6 year old twins and they love them!
Amazing! I’m so glad 🙂
My bad….This is one of my first changes my diet. I was trying to avoid sugar so I used Monk Fruit brown sugar. I think that is a 1 to 1 ratio. My problem came from using the Lakanto sugar free chocolate chips. I would not use those again in this recipe. They are way too sweet. The choc chips really have an aftertaste. I will try using the 80% dark chocolate. I just used what I had on hand. The dough itself was very tasty.
Some things made with alternative sweeteners are actually much sweeter tasting than actual sugar, so I’d suggest avoiding if possible! Yes, feel free to use dark chocolate instead 🙂
WINNER, WINNER, CHICKEN DINNER!!! I’ve been testing low/no carb recipes for weeks and this is by far the best sweet tooth fix. I did not have coconut sugar so I substituted it with Swerve brand granular (same measure as coconut). It’s not a Tollhouse, but it’s pretty close in taste. Thank you!!!
I’m glad that worked out well! Such a great treat!
Love these. I’m a cookie addict so needed to switch to a healthy cookie and these totally do the trick. And my husband and 3 YO love them top. I’ve made them 3x. They’re super fast and easy.
Love it! Glad they’re a hit!
Just made a batch of these. So simple to make and delicious. They are perfectly lightly sweet, and the texture is just right. Thank you!
Amazing! Glad you loved them!
Made those cookies 3x in two days so it says all 🙂 first time we overcooked them cos we forgot and they got a bit crispy 🙂 🙂 we still eat them tho yummy 🙂 🙂 we make them so often it’s not even nice 🙂 🙂 🙂 I usually put less sugar and lit bit less chips as by recipe it’s falling off the dough as there are too much of them but seriously best dairy free chocolate chips ever 🙂
Delicious! Definitely recommend trying these. My husband said these were the best cookies we’ve ever made!
These cookies are so delicious and are my new addiction! I’ve made this recipe at least 10 times already. I use around half the amount of sugar because I like my desserts not too sweet and I like to add shredded coconut on top, and they are amazing.
So happy to hear that!
These cookies are the real deal. I’ve made them a bunch of times and they’ve been amazing every time. I love how quickly they come together and they are a go-to when I’m tired but am in the mood to bake something. Recently I made them with mini M&M’s and my mom said it was the best chocolate chip cookie she’s ever had (including gluten cookies)! Nice job!
Absolutely! Love that idea 🙂
Not really sure what happened to mine, but they would not hold together. I baked at 350 for 13 minutes, and waited for them to cool. I basically had to eat these with a spoon, but they tasted great!
That doesn’t seem right. I suggest trying again and double checking your measurements. You can also refer to the video in the recipe if that helps!
Wow, these are so so good! Chewy on the inside and crisp on the outside, super flavorful and tasty. Really easy to make, too! I’ll definitely be making these again!
Absolutely! Glad you enjoyed!
Made these with a flax egg and regular sugar. came out delicious! Perfectly crisp on the outside but soft in the middle. Easy quick recipe!
Perfect! Glad you enjoyed!
These actually are the best paleo chocolate chip cookies!! Since being diagnosed with loads of food sensitivities, I’ve been searching the Internet high and low for a solid, 100% crowd pleasing, healthy chocolate chip cookie recipe and I’ve finally found it! I also love how simple and quick this recipe is to whip up. Thank you for such delicious, nourishing, and healthy recipes! 😊 🍪
I’m so glad you found these ones! Perfect treat 🙂
Great recipe. This is so easy to make on a whim and too difficult to mess up. Back when I’d use butter and wheat flour (I don’t anymore I think diary/gluten triggers my IBS) I’d get different results everytime…did it rest..the butter is not the right texture…how many egg yolks..blah blah.
This recipe gets rid of all of that for me and is consistent and easy to customise.
Thanks for the recipe!
Love that! Such a great treat. I’m glad you found these ones!
Family favorite, love these
I’m so glad!
I love Monique’s recipes – I feel like I can always find a version of a recipe I want to make with ALL the ingredients I already have in my kitchen. Easy and quick for when you want a cookie that’y not loaded with sugar yet satisfies the sweets craving… Nailed it with this one. Mixed some white chocolate chips in there too – my whole house smells delish. Thanks AK. xoxo
So happy to hear that!! Hope you keep finding more recipes here that you love 🙂
These look divine! Would it be possible to please add the weight for the coconut and almond flour? I much prefer to weigh these flours to get more accurate results.
Hi, Dawn! Sorry for the inconvenience. I don’t weigh ingredients, so I’d recommend using an online conversion calculator 🙂
These sound great for those who like chewy soft cookies – But what do you suggest for those who prefer crispy chocolate chip cookies? I have tried subbing coconut flour for wheat flour in my favorite recipe, and it was too dense for me – though my Swedish friend adored them!
I know I can use some almond flour and some millet or other grain-free flour – but what would you suggest for an all paleo crispy cookie? Thanks much!
Hi, Darshana! Sorry for the delay. You could try using all almond flour and baking longer, but please know I have not tested it to be certain!
Such a good texture! Soft and gooey, and easy to make without abstract ingredients. Definitely a recipe I can whip up quickly when in the mood for cookies.
Awesome, I’m so glad you loved these and that they came out perfectly!
Finally, I found not only a healthy, gilt free alternative for my four boys and I. There’s allergies in my family. It does kind of suck being allergic to milk because majority of stuff do have milk and for my sons eggs. You can tell for the consistency. Honestly in a weird way I am glad. It helps us eat clean majority of the time. Foods tastes way better. Our bodies are receiving not only energy but vitamins while eating a cookie. I can now say. Thanks that there is hope to for yummy 🍪 For the oil I used olive oil, and Enjoy Life dark chocolate chips 🍫, and for replacement of the 🥚 chia seeds. No useless hidden ingredients.
So glad this recipe works for you guys and that you’re loving them, Angelica! ❤️
Is there an alternative to using coconut flour? I would LOVE to try this recipe.
I wouldn’t recommend altering the flours in this recipe, sorry! But these cookies use almond flour + oat flour and are AMAZING 🙂
So impressed with these! I make them again and again!
FAM FAVORITE!!!
Ohhh yea!!! Taste like chocolate chip cookie!! I can’t believe it! I tried other paleo choc chic cookies recipes and was horrible! This one I’m in heaven!!!!!!! Thank you!!!! For sure is the best!
Completely agree with the title! Best paleo classic choc chip.
Recently had to go DF due to cow milk allergy in my breastfeeding infant and was looking for a treat that tasted good and was okay for me to eat. These were delish- my whole fam loved them (toddler and mother who doesn’t typically like coconut included!). Thank you! Will def be making again.
Amazing! So easy and the coconut sugar really gives that brown sugar type taste. Will definitely make these again
These are so easy and taste incredible. My kids love them. The batter is also delicious.
Yay!! And yes haah I could literally eat the batter right off the spoon! So happy you guys are enjoying them 🙂
Yum! These are a postpartum, nursing necessity for me! Sadly I ran our of coconut sugar and tried to substitute with maple syrup. The result was “meh.” I wouldn’t recommend it and I will not make the mistake to run out of coconut sugar again! 😆
Ohh yes would definitely recommend sticking with the coconut sugar! Happy that you’re loving them!
My fiancé and I started paleo about a year ago and these are our go-to cookie! They are AMAZING! I follow the recipe precisely but have also tried adding chopped pecans and raisins instead of chocolate and they are also so yummy! Thank you for this amazing recipe 🙂
Omg YAY! I’m so happy you guys are loving these! This mix-ins all sounds delish 🙂
Delicious! I absolutely recommend this recipe! Easy and irresistible. 🙂
Yay! I’m so happy you enjoyed these, Ann 🙂
Delicious!
Gotdammit MONIQUE DOES IT AGAIN. I was making these (and I make probably 5 AK recipes during the week)and I was like no. These simply cannot work. I don’t understand how this is going to taste good. AND I’LL BE DAMMED. They were so M word, the chocolate with the nutty deep flavor of the coconut and almond flour was just *chefs kiss* and they were SO fast to make! My husband and best friend loved them. They were gone in about 10 minutes after pulling them out of the oven between the 3 of us. Thank you cookie qween ILU
Hahaha YES I’m so happy you loved them yaaaay!
These were absolutely delicious. I was looking for paleo cookies to help my daughter’s cholesterol and I was uncertain how they would taste, but we loved them. Thank you!
This recipe came out so good! Do you think I could add protein powder?
Hi, Kim! I haven’t tested that with this recipe but I have a similar almond flour-based cookie recipe that you can definitely add protein powder to. Check out the recipe blog post for how to do that 🙂
Thank you for sharing this recipe. I used the flax egg, earth balance instead of coconut oil, and 1/3 cup sugar and they came out great. Great recipe!
So glad to hear they came out amazing! Thanks, Lynda 🙂
Best ever.
Love these Best Paleo Chocolate Chunk Cookies, seems super delicious and amazing. Super excited to try these recipes, thanks for sharing this one with us .
I’m making these today! Glad I know how much chocolate chips to use since I don’t have chunks or a chocolate bar to chop so, I’m adding in chocolate chips! So excited to see how they come out!
Hope they turned out amazing!
These taste like health food. They might be tasty for paleo, but they are not going to satisfy the desire for a chocolate chip cookie, if you still remember what those should taste like. I made these without alterations.
Sorry you didn’t love these! You might like these cookies more (which are one of my most popular recipes 🙂 )
Just made these with my daughter and they are SO good and easy to bake. My new fav paleo cookies 🙂
Yay! So glad you are loving this recipe ❤️🙂
I have made these about 100x so I feel I have a responsibility to comment and say how AMAZING they are! The only thing i would say is they usually only make about 9 cookies when I try to make them the same size as the picture, and it is really important to let the coconut oil cool so it doesn’t curdle! They are the BEST cookies!
So glad these are a favorite! And yes great tip with cooling the coconut oil. Room temp ingredients are key!
10/10
So damn good! Do yourself a favor and make these ASAP. I thought I loved the grain free birthday cake cookies, but these are even better. Monique does not disappoint. 🙏🏼🙏🏼
AHH this is amazing! So glad you are loving this recipe ❤️🙂
thanks for information
Absolutely!
This is the best paleo chocolate chip cookie I have had. My family isn’t gluten free or paleo but since I am I try to cook this way. Everyone loves them! Easy and delicious! I have made them several times and they are always a hit. I add nuts sometimes too.
Aw yay! I am so glad these cookies are a hit 🙂
Thanks for sharing this article it was quite insightful. Hoping to see more articles. Meanwhile, refer
I really loved reading your Content I had a wonderful experience
Really amazing post
I found myself truly impressed with these cookies. I don’t care for coconut flour. As such I had a lot leftover in the pantry and I don’t like to waste things. So, I figured i could give this a try to help use up some of that flour. These cookies are delicious. It was sooooooooo very hard to stop myself from eating more than one cookie. 100% recommend.
Ah this is the BEST, Jessica. I am so glad you gave this recipe a try and are loving it ❤️
Hi,if I reduce sugar to 1/3 cup do I need to reduce the amount of oil used?
Hi! I haven’t tried reducing the sugar in these cookies so I’m not 100% what other adjustments you’d have to make.
These baked up GREAT for me! And, I live high elevation at 7,500ft. The only thing I changed was I added 1/2 tsp salt to the cookie dough instead of sprinkling on top, and I added an additional 1 Tbs of almond flour due to the high elevation factor, but not sure that was necessary. They taste great and look like a beautiful cookie that didn’t spread all over the place. I also let my paleo doughs rest in the fridge for about 30 min before baking; I find this to be very helpful. Thank you!
Amazing! So happy they worked out well at high altitude. Such a great treat!
Delicious cookie recipe!!!! We made a few substitutions…we used avocado oil instead of coconut oil, allulose instead of sugar and we used dairy free white chocolate chips instead of chocolate. This recipe is a keeper! Thanks so much!
Glad those subs worked well and that you loved them!!
Wow Rally Nice I Like It Thank U So Much
Fantastic! I didn’t have cane sugar, used regular brown sugar and I did have to add a bit more oil(I used Avocado oil) they turned out wonderful!
YUM! I am so glad these turned out great for you ❤️
Is it possible to substitute regular sugar for the coconut sugar?
Hi Pankaj, I haven’t tested it in this recipe, but it should work. Let me know how these turn out for you!
Really really good. I only had almond flour so I subbed it for the coconut flour. I also added 1/4 tsp of salt into the batter. Also, I used a good organic grass fed butter as I am paleo except for butter. These were soft yet chewy on the edges. I did giant cookies, next time I will do smaller ones so I can get a chewier cookie overall.
Amazing! So glad this recipe turned out great for you and you’re loving these cookies ❤️
Delicious! I love these healthier cookies.
So glad you do, thanks!
These were amazing! I modified it just a little: 1/4 cup dairy free dark chocolate chips, 1/4 craisins, and 1/4 unsweetened coconut. The course salt on top really boosted the flavors! This will be my go-to chocolate chip cookie recipe from now on. Thank you for sharing!
Love those mix-ins! Glad you enjoyed 🙂
These truly are the perfect paleo cookie. The texture and taste are both perfect. My kids and I doubled the batch, and rolled half of the cookie dough balls in a mix of cinnamon and coconut sugar to make a snickerdoodle variation (per their request). The original chocolate chip and the snickerdoodle variation of this cookie were both so, so good. Best paleo cookie I’ve ever tried!
Love that! So glad everyone enjoyed!
Usually I make these exactly as the recipe has them but today I decided to swap the coconut sugar for maple sugar, used ghee instead of coconut oil, and added crushed pecans and these were by far the best version i’ve ever had!
I’m glad those swaps worked out well!
Is there any alternative for Coarse sea salt…., if possible
Feel free to omit it!
These are really good. I’ve tried a few different recipes for paleo cookies and this is the best one so far!
So happy to hear that!
Addicting and delicious! I was out of eggs so I used a flax egg and they baked up perfectly. I used grapeseed oil instead of coconut but kept the rest of the recipe exactly the same. So good!
Perfect! Glad you loved them!
Love the idea of a healthier cookie
I NEVER leave reviews and I think this is the first ever food review I’ve ever left on a website in all my years of cooking. All I can say is wow wow wow wow wow.
Amazing consistency, Flavour.
Love it so much. Thank you
Thanks so much for your review! These are the BEST.
SO tasty you would never know they are good for you!!
I used a 1” cookie scoop which made 2 dozen cookies so I shortened the baking time to about 9 minutes and they came out perfectly!
Love that!
OH MY GOSH. So good!! They are so gooey and delicious!! They did not spread much, so if that’s something you want, maybe look for a non paleo recipe. I’m sure she has a bunch on this blog! I added chia seeds for some crunch and texture and it made these SO much better. That tiny crunch makes all the difference. Definitely will be coming back to this recipe 🙂
Love it! The gluten free flours will make these thicker, but you can press them down slightly before baking, too, if you’d like 🙂
The BEST cookies! We make these every week and nibble on them throughout. We sometimes use 70% chocolate if we can’t find anything higher, and that does make the cookies a bit sweeter but still delish.
So good!!
These are delicious and beautiful! I love how simple the recipe is to make and follow and how simple the ingredients are. I will definitely be making this recipe again. Not sure if I made smaller scoops, but one batch gave me more than 12 (always a good problem to have).
Such a great treat! The cookies may just have been a little smaller 🙂
These are a staple in our house! The most simple, delicious treat!
Thanks for the delicious Recipe! I made it yesterday and we are loving these cookies! That said I had a bit of a problem with the part of the recipe that says: “You may need to use your hands to moisten the dough so that it sticks together well.” Even though I used my hands and the dough was very sticky, the chocolate chips (I didn’t have a bar) were not sticking to the dough. It took me 15 minutes or so to “shape” the cookies. Should’ve I “moistened” my hands to “moist” the dough? Or what do you think could have been the problem? :). Thank you again! H
These were SO good! I was out of coconut sugar, so I subbed with brown sugar (I’m GF not paleo). These are my new favorite cookies.
Perfect! So glad you loved them!
So delicious
Glad you loved them!
