I’m back with another super easy, deliciously flavorful sauce that you’ll want to drizzle on anything and everything. Say hello to my creamy avocado lime sauce!
This sauce is the real deal. It’s fresh, a little zesty, packs a punch of protein, and even doubles as an incredible dip. Double dipping may or may not be encouraged.
You guys know I LOVE a good homemade sauce recipe, especially one that I can use in tons of different recipes.
The idea for this sauce actually came from my baked peruvian chicken drumsticks, and I’ve made it countless times to pair with chicken, salmon, use as a salad dressing and even as a dip for veggies.
What’s in this creamy avocado lime sauce?
The best part about this sauce is that it uses just 5 simple ingredients (plus a little salt & pepper):
- Avocado
- Plain greek yogurt
- Cilantro
- Garlic
- Fresh lime juice
- Optional: jalapeno, if you like it spicy
The flavors in this easy homemade sauce are super fresh and perfect for summer, which makes the sauce easy to pair with just about anything! Feel free to add a kick of heat from jalapeño or your favorite hot sauce! A dash of one of these is guaranteed to get the sauce party started.
Ways to use this avocado lime sauce:
- Drizzle this avocado yogurt sauce onto chicken, salmon, or tofu. It would be incredible with a chicken burrito bowl, or spooned over delicious meatballs or enchiladas. How good would this be with vegan nachos? YUM.
- Dip grilled shrimp, veggies, or these paleo chicken tenders! No judgment if you dive in with some tortilla chips or veggies as a dip!
- Use this avocado lime sauce as a marinade for any of your favorite proteins in the same way you’d use any of these go-to marinades. Finally, pour a little onto a veggie packed salad like this southwest chicken salad.
How to store this avocado lime sauce:
Keep this homemade avocado lime sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for about 3-4 days. The lime juice and acidity from the yogurt will help prevent browning of the avocado, so the sauce should stay nice and vibrant green. Of course, the quicker you use up the sauce, the better it will be! Be sure to give the sauce a good stir before you use it, or shake it up with a few tablespoon of water in a dressing mixer like this one to use over salads.
I hope you love this incredible avocado lime sauce and find some fun, creative ways to use it! If you make this recipe, please leave a comment and rate the recipe below so others know how you liked it! Thank you for your readership! xo.

Hey there! Have you ever tried this with frozen avocados? Would love tips! I put up about 20 lbs of avocado each year in our freezer.
I haven’t but I’m sure it would work well!
I don’t have to think twice whether I will make this or not! I love your suggestions of drizzling it over chicken, tofu, nachos, etc. I am also thinking I could use it drizzled over the fish that I plan to make for dinner tonight, OR the cauliflower crust pizza! No limits!
So many amazing ways to use it! It’s so delicious on fish.
Thanks Monique! This looks amazing…can’t wait to try it. Reminds me of Trader Joe’s Green Goddess dressing but more vibrant and fresh.
Of course Susan! YUM absolutely. Enjoy!
that looks really good I will try it this weekend, thanks for the great recipes
Absolutely! Hope you love it 🙂
Seems so versatile and delicious! I am thinking you could also swap basil and lemon for a totally different sauce!
Absolutely! It’s a great base for tons of flavors too 🙂
It sounds amazing! Is there any substitute for Greek yogurt?
You can try sour cream or dairy free sour cream or dairy free plain yogurt.
Can i use greek yogurt blueberry?
I wouldn’t recommend using a blueberry yogurt in here as the flavor will change.
Hi! I’m making this tonight for dipping sauce for flautas !
How far in advanced can I make this dip?
Hello! I LOVE this recipe and make it on almost every type of meat or tofu!
I recently had to go dairy free and am wondering if there’s anything I can substitute the yogurt for?
Thanks so much!
Hi Meagan! In this recipe I’d recommend a plain, dairy free greek yogurt or dairy free sour cream.
Making to drizzle over baked salmon with salt, pepper, and fresh olive oil. I tasted the sauce and can see how it would also go wonderfully with shrimp, tilapia, red snapper, and chicken. Maybe also as a spread on a chicken sandwich…It tastes great!
Delicious! Love those idea. Enjoy!
Woow, this is amazing. It is exactly what I was looking for. Jack-In-The-Box came out with a new item that includes a new avocado-lime dipping sauce, and I wanted to try making it at home. This was the first result in Google and this is perfect!
I accidentally put the juice of an entire lime instead of measuring it out, and it turned out to be too much but I got used to it after a few bites. I also added the whole jalapeno instead of half, and I feel it could still use more heat, but it’s still great.
Thank you for the recipe!
So happy you found this one! Next time feel free to leave the seeds in the jalapeño, too, and measure out that lime juice 🙂 glad you enjoyed!
So delicious to throw on a salad or roasted veggies! Also a great place to use any extra greens (raddish tops etcetera…) used extra jalapeño and it was a crowd favorite, will be making often!
Absolutely! Love that idea.
Excellent both with and without jalapeños. Guests were very impressed with this, pairs excellently with sweet potato tacos!
Listen, I don’t know where to start but I have made this recipe 3 times in the last 2 weeks! It is so creamy and delicious. I eat a gluten free and lactose free diet this has been my favorite sauce recipe that I’ve found and so easy to make. I eaten it with chicken nachos, as a veggie dip and chips dip. It has gotten two thumbs up from my fiancé
LOVE THE AVOCADO DRESSING. THANK YOU PAT.
Thank you, Pat! I’m so happy you do! 🙂
Just made this recipe to go with the Crazy Good Street Corn Chicken Tacos! It tastes really good and is so creamy from the avocado. I did add the half jalapeno for an added kick! The one thing I wish was that the recipe had more ingredients with their weight instead of cups, especially the herbs!
Thanks so much for sharing how to make Avocado Lime Sauce. I used to learn how to make my own Avocado Lime Sauce and then I forgot the recipe and I haven’t made it in a long time. Coincidentally seeing this tutorial. It seems quite refreshing compared to the way I used to apply. But I think its taste is great.
Lovely sauce, nay of used a bit to much lime though and chilli, just wondered how long it would last in the fridge?
it’ll last 3-4 days in the fridge!
