Which apples are best for baking and cooking?
I’m a huge fan of honeycrisp apples because they’re so juicy, crisp, and perfectly sweet, but you can really use any apples you’d like in these recipes! I do recommend using firmer apples for baking because they’ll hold their shape the best.
- Firm apples: Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, Braeburn, Haralson, Pink Lady, Golden Delicious
- Softer apples: Gala, Fuji, McIntosh, Red Delicious
Should I peel the apples?
This also really depends on the recipe you’re making. For things like salads, pancakes, and crostini you can feel free to keep the skin on the apples. For pies, crisps and cakes I recommend peeling them so that the skin doesn’t interfere with the texture of the dessert.

Thanks for sharing! Remember to go easy on added sugars and fats when cooking apples for a healthier option. Apples are naturally sweet pizza tower and can be enjoyed without excessive sweeteners. Also, leaving the skin on can provide additional fiber and nutrients. Cooking methods like baking and steaming retain more nutrients compared to deep frying or excessive boiling. Enjoy your cooked apples as a nutritious and satisfying treat!
